TAT to organize “Thailand Happiness Street Festival” on July 25-26

BANGKOK, 11 July 2014 (NNT) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is scheduled to kick off the Thailand Happiness Street Festival at Ratchaprasong intersection late this month to refresh the image of Thai tourism.

TAT Governor Thawatchai Aranyik revealed that a budget of 10 million baht would be spent to organize the Thailand Happiness Street Festival during July 25-26. The event will take place on Rama I Road and Ratchaprasong intersection in the heart of Bangkok.

It is anticipated that the two-day festival will attract around 200,000 visitors, generating a cash flow of over 200 million baht.

The TAT has also set high hopes for a return of confidence among foreign tourists as a result of this event, with the number of arrivals in the fourth quarter of this year increasing from the estimate of 7 million individuals to 7.8 million.

The street festival will be divided into two zones. The first is called “Happiness Music”, where concerts will be performed by well-known artists, and the second is called “Happiness Street” featuring Thai-style parades as well as sales of products ranging from clothing and food to celebrity products.

Poor old TAT. Still wearing the same inane grin and pretending to enjoy the poisoned chalice. Pity Ken Dodd isn't around to lead the singing - and maybe hand out sandwiches.

" Happiness for the people" will probably mean that some will be left grieving their dead that will be killed on the motorcycles after drinking copious amounts of beer and lao Khao.

The street Festival might also be seen by some, and used as an opportunity to rebel against the Junta.

More Thai insanity

Why does the Junta not release the managers of TAT!!!!!!!!! They waste money instead finding solutions how to face the tourists with good service, respect, new "products " of tourism attactions (open the National Parks in a way tourists can use the beautifull nature and show them what Thailand has to offer beside sextoruism or the beaches).....Shame on this TAT managers! Sent them to hell!

it's a stand up comedy, from day one.

foreigners don't come to marshal law countries, it invalidates insurance

Rob Whelan is the chief executive of the Insurance Council of Australia and he stated "policies would not be voided due to the coup but exclusions would apply" So really a bit of shopping around needs to be done. Also the TAT have teamed up with three local insurance companies to promote travel insurance service for foreign tourists as well.

It is a shame actually that some insurance companies won't cover, but this is normal operating procedures and they have no choice. I find it rather ironic that when there were daily terrorist attacks some perceive it as a safe destination. When the terrorist attacks stop those same people engage their "doom and gloom" chip.

I for one feel a lot safer when I travel to Bangkok now.

Might be time to get on the "happiness train" to "happiness street" for a "happy ice cream"

<EDIT> And maybe a happy ending!

Do you mean martial law?

Guess you best go to Suvhanabhumi and tell all the arriving foreigners to check their insurances.

He's correct. Travel insurance is invalid during any martial law (I'm not sure about marshal law though)

most of them know about insurance problems from their governments, travel agents and mass media warnings. That's apart from a boycott of thailand after the military coup, slavery and child labour articles.

that's why tat is trying very hard to boost the numbers
