A brutal attack and praise for the efficiency of the Samui police force

A normal thinking man may find it difficult to believe the short explanation of my girlfriends sexual

Attack in Thailand around 7 years ago. She did not know nor had ever met the perpetrator

It was a random attack when she least expected it and after just leaving a very safe and secure evening with friends.

I'm pleased to advise eventually there was an arrest and a court case. The arrest was the hardest part with every relative coming forward to give him an alibi for the night of the assault.

When he did confess it was apparently my girlfriends fault.

Basically His argument was that my girlfriend had provoked him. Had seen him earlier in the night looking at her and she smiled and stared

At him. Flirting. Looking at him all night in a sexual way. They tried to say that she was drunk and perhaps deserved it. Needless to say she did nothing of the sort and he had fabricated all of his version. Or his lawyers version.

His lawyers fought the fight I have to say and they made her look like rubbish.

But in the end the Thai court convicted and he was sent to a prison out in pathum Thani way.

The police that assisted and went to great lengths still today have my gratitude

Random is random. The word random itself exists because there is always a random element to life.

What happened to this guy reads eerily similar to my girlfriends and my experience and you have my empathy. She too had to undergo surgery afterwards although nothing near what this young man will endure.

Trust the police in this situation. Sounds like they are your real support in this. I know the Thai police suffer a lot of negative publicity but here are two cases where they have committed and worked hard. I m sure there are many more we just don't hear about those ones.

Just because he lost the fight, doesn't automatically make him the victim. He got 3 punches to the face, 2 to the mouth and one in the eye. This doesn't sound like an attack from behind, it sounds like it was face to face. It was all over in 5 seconds which suggests it wasn't any kind of prolonged assault.

Maybe he was innocent maybe he was not, probably 50/50 between drunken youths, he just came off the worst.

When a parent starts a story telling how wonderful their child is, it usually turns out that the opposite is true.

As for missing out on going to University because he got a split lip and a few teeth knocked out, utter hogwash. That sounds like an excuse for their wayward son, who wasn't going to get the required grades in the first place.

It has now been confirmed that Jack will require numerous bone grafts from a cadaver and gum grafts from his own p

Even if you miss a couple of months of uni it can be pretty hard to get back into it and it might easily ruin your grades for the year.

An article written by one of his parents, not by a Doctor, if he needs reconstruction, then he will go to the hospital every few months. He will not be in hospital long term. This work can be done near a University that he should be attending or during holiday breaks

Although it is sad to see a teenager beat up, I fail to see what this has to do with Thailand. He was not assaulted by Thai men. It just happened to be on Samui during a Full Moon Party.

I do not mean to sound callous, but these kind of assaults happen every single weekend in Australia, the UK, Ireland etc.

Young men, pissed up (maybe some drugs involved) out on the town often leads to senseless violence.

Lets put things in perspective, shall we? I am happy to see that Samui police managed to catch the perps.

It doesn't matter if he provoked them. Assaulting someone over a discussion isn't acceptable.

Oh yes it does... A provoked assault can get you off with a slap on the wrist while and unprovoked assault can get the proverbial book thrown at you in any North American or European court.

One would have to be a bit daft to even go to a place like that-obviously poor Jack doesnt have much sense but maybe now he will wake up and stay away from booze and drugs,I know that is exceedingly difficult for some but even they might learn in time.. rather go to church,oh I never thought of that, or better yet a temple..

The police came around the lawyer of course didn't change that opinion.

Being a graduate I know all the students from the top 3 international schools in Bangkok go there every year. I believe they have even had student deaths. Although that's just what I had heard from people with kids at these schools. Sounds like this was a one off graduation or schoolies week.

But this should be a word of warning to all the kids. This place can attract the dregs of society and the best. You can get lucky and meet the best types of people there. I know I have. But it takes one time to run into people like these. Human beings to do this to another human being- well I have my own thoughts on people like that.

But kids please start to think about other destinations for schoolies. Not to say this is the kids fault. Not at all. Unless the other two are as badly damaged. Better choices just means you are less likely to have the pleasure of meeting people like this.

Schoolies Week on the Gold Coast is pretty well behaved apart from the "toolies" (older trouble maker kids) who cause problems. Usually arrested by Police.

At the end of the day, wherever we are, you, me, this student ( or my girlfriend ) had every right to choose where they are to go and what they are to do. If people are hurt and the victims of crime, its really pointless, to a large degree, looking at where they were, or what they said !

Anyone who says it was either victims fault needs to really take a long hard look at themselves and show "Christian"(!!!) compassion to those hurt and injured or in pain- physically and mentally.

One or two things. It is a bit naive to suggest we all have the right to go anywhere: so one should never consider a place's reputation before visiting? Put North Korea back on the tourist map and enjoy swimming on Fukushima beach in that case.

Sorry but you're wrong. It's got everything to do with Thailand because if Thais had committed this, we could at least understand that some Thais, like in any country are going to be bad apples. That is to say that in most cases, Thais wouldn't attack anyone, Thai or foreigner unprovoked. But at least we could assume that there was some kind of cultural misunderstanding or something.

What gripes me about this case, without even reading any further than the perpetrators were foreigners all I can say is: HOW DARE THESE FOREIGNERS EXPORT THEIR VIOLENT BEHAVIOUR TO THAILAND. These a-holes should be held in an uncomfortable Thai jail, have their visas cancelled and be blacklisted, permanently and thus prevented from ever returning to Thailand, for life. Thailand is no place for foreigners to export their ugly behaviour, whether they punch up another foreigner or god forbid, another Thai. It's unacceptable. It's always worse if a foreigner commits a violent or other criminal act in Thailand than a Thai and they should be punished more severely. Foreigners are supposed to come to Thailand and be on their best behaviour at all times - they are guests here and good guests don't cause trouble for their hosts.

Many foreigners come to Thailand, some to party in order to get away from the violence in Australia, the Uk, Ireland, the USA and other countries that you described. Why do criminal scumbags need to come all the way to Thailand to engage in such behaviour? These creeps should have tried bashing up people in China oh yeah that's right they would have been held incommunicado in a red Chinese prison had they tried that.

Those Universities are interested in one thing--money.

They could care a less about this incident and could not even prevent their admission unless there is an actual criminal record. Short of that, their influential fathers would have a field day.

Like it or not--those boys are part of that emerging class of global citizen that is above the law.

Don't forget that foreigners were involved here. All bets are off here because foreigners' actions are more heavily scrutinized than the actions of Thais. So what you said about North American or European courts doesn't count here. Also, in many countries assault is taken very seriously irrespective of who provoked it - the penalties can be much more severe than back home and I believe Thailand is one of these countries (perhaps that explains why many East Asian countries are far safer than Europe or North America?)

Christianity has nothing to do with it it is just the common prospective of right and wrong

Some crimes can be justified depending on the case even murder. When common law fails to protected oneself then taking revenge or un lawful justice in my opinion can be justified

For example if the police did not secure a result in this case then if I knew all the facts and the people responsible were injured or killed in some kind of alternative revenge attack then I would not feel any compassion for them

Sometime the law is needed to protect the criminals as if things were settled outside they may never have to worry about police and jail as they would be dead

A split lip and a few teeth knocked out? are you for real, Jack is looking at 12 months to 18 months of surgeries to his face and will never get more than about 80% back to normal. The attack ripped his gum from his top jaw which will take a long time to repair and even then never fully!

Thanks to the SAS students who have come forward recently with information regarding the two attackers. The info on the new home and the relocation to the US was a big help to us. Good to know that some of the SAS crew has a conscience. Without them, we wouldn't have half the information we have today.
