Popular Post Lite Beer
Letter to the editor – A brutal attack and praise for the efficiency of the Samui police force KOH SAMUI: -- My son Jack and I are Australian nationals who have made Thailand our home for the past 15 years. For parents, Koh Samui is a location not often synonymous with safety, rather with recklessness and irresponsibility. In accordance with its reputation, I was obviously hesitant when allowing my son Jack to venture there for his after-graduation celebration, especially since he was going to be there at the same time the Full Moon Party was occurring. Although Jack is a very responsible young man, I am well aware there are others that are less inclined to act in the same manner in which my son conducts himself. All my initial fears were realised when at 3 a.m. on the third day of his vacation, I received a call from a hospital on the island. I was advised that my son had been brutally and callously assaulted. Piecing the story together later, from witness accounts and from my sons’ recollection of events when he regained consciousness, he had been attacked without mercy by two strangers, from behind whilst dancing at a well-known night spot. The attack was all over Jack 4in five seconds when the attackers then dispersed into the crowded dance floor area of the venue. No mercy was shown to Jack and he had no opportunity to defend himself. As the attackers had fled the scene, there was inadequate evidence for the apprehension of a suspect(s). Through the tireless efforts of Police Colonel Stit Promutai, Lieutenant Danchai Boontham and the rest of the officers from Bo Phut police station involved, we were able to locate and arrest two graduating students from a prominent American high school in Shanghai, China. Popular Post ClutchClark
I am sorry to hear about Jack's misfortune and am just relieved it wasn't worse. He sounds like the kind of man who will make the most of this setback and not let it keep him down for long. It also sounds like some great police work! But it sounds like the two assailants are quite well connected and their daddies will no doubt have a high priced law firm at their disposal. Probably already have one on retainer since the apple never falls far from the tree.
AngThong
Sorry to hear, such a sad incident. I hope Jack will recover fully and lead a good and meaningful life. Full moon was mentioned but it appears this incident happened on Samui, not Phangan...? Chaweng?
robertthebruce
How sad is this, .. Poor Jack, I do hope he makes a full recovery, and I do hope that the two attackers get what they deserve..
96tehtarp
I lived on Phuket when it was beautiful, and left soon after it was ruined. Samui same. Now I feel very much at home in Nakhon Nowhere and still enjoy Bangkok and all the other provincial capitals whenever I want to. Sometimes it really does seem like tourism ruins everything. I wish the unfortunate chap a quick recovery.
blowin
I had the pleasure of meeting an Aussie rules football team (East Perth) in Chaweng beach about 6 years ago. They I mean some striped off and preceded to hassle any female including my wife. I asked my wife to move seats when this arrogant 20sh boy came over and asked me did I have a problem and if I did lets go outside. I pointed out that maybe I was old enough to be his father and maybe he was a brave man with all his mates around as they were all watching. I would not have liked to have been in my twenties as I would not been able to talk myself out this bad situation and you could feel these guys were just waiting to rock. It was by the way a full moon party week on Kho Phangan . Get well Jack and I hope your star will shine bright for you again soon.

Popular Post PoorSucker
Mr. Wang and Mr. Chang( full names cannot be disclosed for legal reasons) planned to attend university as undergraduates at Purdue and Cornell Universities in the United States respectively. Hope they will not be granted visas with a criminal record.
Popular Post EvilDrSomkid
Although it is sad to see a teenager beat up, I fail to see what this has to do with Thailand. He was not assaulted by Thai men. It just happened to be on Samui during a Full Moon Party. I do not mean to sound callous, but these kind of assaults happen every single weekend in Australia, the UK, Ireland etc. Young men, pissed up (maybe some drugs involved) out on the town often leads to senseless violence. Lets put things in perspective, shall we? I am happy to see that Samui police managed to catch the perps.

crazykopite
I hope the young man will get well soon , the point I wish to raise was that the incident happened on Koh Samui and with that in mind has nothing to do with the full moon party as that is held on the next island some 40 minutes boat ride. Sadly in the world we live in there seems to be total disregard for others and thugs will go out of there way to cause trouble no matter where you live on the world I am glad that the police have managed to arrest the two who carried out this attack however as in all parts of Thai And and the rest of the world money talks whether it be by paying back handlers or lawyers I hope for your sons sake these two thugs get there just rewards and spend time in the newel built prison on the island. [email protected] [email protected] Crap loads of Chinese students at Purdue so I would assume lots of Wang's and Chang's. I know some people at my former University if I had the full name of the one who is going there I would throw up a red flag.

Poor little rich boys hmmmmmmm They need to be banged up in the Bangkok Hilton, a few days in a cell with 40 others and pooing in a bucked will do then a world of good.

lvr181
Alcohol, drugs and testosterone are a volatile mix. Likely to be the problem but then again those who committed the assault actually have no balls at all!
Sena Dave
Difficult to avoid "Trouble spots" at that age, which is anywhere in the early hours with a multitude of people with 8 to 10 hours drinking in them . mihalis
Sadly this is not a Thai problem, and no reflection on Thailand at all... People are attacked daily in Australia, England and so on... being killed by cowards... I hope he's better soon...
Tanlic
I agree with mihalis but holiday resorts no matter where get lager louts visiting and spoiling. I can remember when Rhodes/Greece was a pardadise and young Brits couldn't afford to go but were causing pure havock in Spain. Parts of Bali are everybit as dangerous as the Costa Del Sol once was. Nowaday yobs have so much money they can just about go to any place in the world Edited July 13, 2014 by Tanlic

Likely to be the problem but then again those who committed the assault actually have no balls at all! You wish.......Try telling the poor guy who was attacked that. They got too much balls, don't give a hoot about anyone, are most likely extremely vicious and that is a problem victims face everyday Edited July 13, 2014 by Tanlic
jack1965
Regrettably, young guns fly to an exotic island to let their hair down and release all their stress and frustrations at Home but let their guard down when they have a few too many beers. Number 1 rule in a foreign county and at home: Trust no one and watch your back! Thankfully, Jack shall recover but l doubt he'll ever forget or even wish to return to Paradise. What a shame! As for the cowards who struck and fleed, they will get their just deserts sooner or later: it's called Karma!! Jack from Downunder!
Popular Post axact
I see everyone so far is complaining about the Chinese picking on a 'good boy' Australian. No smoke without fire, are you sure it was not an unprovocted attack ? what about a drunk aussie mouthing off ? seen that too many times. Just because the father thinks his boy is good does not make it so. Posters also claim the Chinese are spoilt rich kids but the Aussie isnt ? Get real, probably the attacked is a spoilt rich kid too, dont see to many poor aussies kids living in Thailand. Every weekend drunk youths get into fights all around the world but the posters here want to string the perps up, ruin their future.....how many of those never got into a drunken fight ? Never seen so many hang them high brigade in one place until I started reading Thaivisa forums, what right have you to judge especaly when you have only one side of the story by a naive parent.
jack1965
That last post from Axact is offensive and disgraceful. Only an xxxxx would make such speculative and unfounded slurs on a victim of crime and his innocent father !It matters not how affluent the victim or his family may be! What matters is that no one deserves to be attacked whilst trying to have a good time in Paradise!Shame on you!!
