Thanks for noticing! Mount Everest (8,849 mt) is, indeed, the highest mountain above sea level. However, there are two contenders using different metrics. Mauna Kea in Hawai'i is 10,210 mt from base to peak. But it's true bases is on the Pacific Ocean floor. Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador is 6,384 km from the Earth's surface. Because the Earth bulges at the equator, it's more than 2,000 mt taller than Everest. Does size matter? It ain't the meat, it's the motion!
