I need some info, please.

I'm currently on extension of stay based on marriage which will expire in November. My issue is that I'll be away all of October and most of November. As such, I'll not be able to apply for renewal before I leave and the current extension will expire. I was thinking that I should make a trip to Laos in August and get a one year multiple entry Non O in lieu of the future extension. If I do that with a valid extension of stay in my passport, is it likely to cause problems? And, assuming they grant the visa, do they cancel the extension? If they don't grant the visa, do they stamp the passport?

Appreciate your help.

You could try to get a 60 day extension based on your marriage, and getting a re-entry permit.

If you leave Thailand without a re-entry permit it will cancel your permission to stay automatically. If you do have a re-entry permit, you would need to cancel it before leaving for Laos.

Thank you, Mario. Yes, I do have a re-entry permit. So I cannot apply for a visa with a valid extension of stay then, is it?

If you are leaving within 45 days of when your extension ends you could apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife before leaving and get a re-entry permit for the the extended time.

As soon as you you leave the country your extension is not valid until you enter the country using a re-entry permit. You could apply for a multiple entry visa and use it to enter the the country instead of a re-entry permit.

Thanks Joe, much obliged for the info. I'll probably have to leave more than 45 days before the expiry of my extension.
