Five strategies will be implemented to promote rice production and trade

The Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry has laid down five strategies on rice production and trade to be implemented between 2006 and 2008.

Deputy permanent-secretary Apichart Pongsrihadulchai (อภิชาต พงษ์ศรีหดุลชัย) said the strategies emphasize research and development of new rice strains and processing technology, increase of productivity, increase of farmers’ knowledge on sufficiency economy and promotion of farmers to become entrepreneurs, increase the value of rice by certifying production methods and developing of packaging and marketing development.

Mr. Apichart said these strategies will be implemented by the Rice Department with cooperation of the Commerce Ministry, the Thai Rice Trade, Thai Rice Mills and Thai Rice Exporters associations.
