Applying for 1-Year Non-Immigrant O visa in USA

Featured Replies

I apologize as this has probably been answered elsewhere but I can't find anything and I didn't see anything the Thai consulate website in DC.

What forms do I need (and where can I download) to apply for a 1-Year Non-Immigrant O visa in the USA by mail?

It just occurred to me that I should probably get one before I return to avoid any worries about entering after Aug 12th since I have been coming and going to Thailand for many years often just extending the 30-day entry at immigration by 60 days and then doing a border run to get another 60-days when needed. Usually I am there for 3-months or less and back in the US for a couple but have times in my passport where I have been there a year at a time doing border run and then 60-day extension.

I am not near a consulate and intend to do this with them by overnight carrier. I'd call them first to confirm everything is in order and the process but figured I should ask here first to get prepared and find out if there could be any hiccups with the process.

Thanks!

PS. I have copies of wife's passport, ID, marriage certificate and that on my computer. So, I think I have everything I need but just trying to understand what all is needed and what paperwork (forms) i need to submit and where to obtain the paperwork online.

You can only apply by mail to the embassy in DC or one of the official consulates in NY, LA or Chicago.

The only form you will need will be the application form that you can download on the website for where you apply. Contact info and websites links are here for the consulates on embassy website: http://www.thaiembdc.org/dcdp/?q=consulate_general

You appear to have copies of all the documents you should need.

You might be closer to one of the honorary consulates than you think. Info here: http://www.thaiembdc.org/dcdp/?q=consulate_honorary

I have been getting a multi entry non O for family visit for about 10 years now at the honorary consulate in Miami. Good service too.

I still don't have a honorary consulate near me but might consider a trip to one to avoid the worries of doing by mail ... how long do they typically take to process? Can it be done while you wait or is it at least an overnight stay?
