hi, all

im applying now for my tourist 60 day 4 entry visa after receiving advice given by the Uk

embassy, after enquiring with them with regard to a 1 year Non-immigrant visa, to

which the very helpful lady told me that the Non-immigrant was more difficult for me to do

visa jumps with as some times neighbouring countries did not like to stamp your re-entry??

I told her that my intentions were to seek work or try to open or join a franchise and

once hopefully acquiring one of the above would then seek a work permit visa, she told

me it was a catch 22 situation regarding what i wanted to achieve, due to the fact of the

problem with the non-immigrant visa not been readily available without a work permit first

and to get the work permit i need the non-immigrant visa ... arrrr!! and to be

prepared to have to travel back to the uk once i found work/business to apply for the

non-immigrant and work permit visa's ... ho-hum!

so if that's all as clear as mud to you it also is to me,

i do understand what she is saying to me after reading through all the visa form sites

and lots of other posts on thai-visa forum. …

i understand there is no easy fix to the solution. Ofcourse to give myself a good

chance of finding the right work/business the 1 year 90 day entry would be best, alas it

looks like im going to have to settle for the tourist 60 day 4 entry visa which only

allows, to my maths 240 days without taking into account travel visa jumps and finding

good accommodation.

i have two questions if i may

A) has the lady given me good advise

:o what kind of insurance shall i be looking for to cover me

cheers for any input guy's

1. I am very surprised that the Embassy will issue a 4 entry tourist visa - normally they limit it to 3 at most places. In any event the validity is 6 months so the max stay would be less than 270 days with full extensions using a 3 entry (60+30+60+30+60+30=270) and the 4 entry could not exceed that because of the 6 month validity limit.

2. Do not know what the information about not stamping a non immigrant visa was about - have never heard of anyone having a problem. The only thing I can think of is that Cambodia has not always been too keen on allowing entry of those who have overstayed there visa in Thailand but do not believe that had anything to to with the visa type.

3. If you can obtain a non immigrant visa, from a smaller Consulate perhaps, that would be the best choice but as long as you have a real tourist visa you can change that inside Thailand if you find work.

4. There has never been a requirement to return to the UK to apply for a non immigrant visa if you have the proper paperwork from you intended employer. The visa can be changed by Immigration or obtained at a country in the area. But it is likely not going to be a multi entry but single entry that you then extend you stay with at Immigration each year. If you do not meet the conditions for that (salary) you might then consider a trip to your home country where it may be more likely you would obtain a multi entry with proof of work permit; although you can exit and obtain a single entry multiple times.

I imagine you applied the Embassy in London?

They never were very helpful. As Lopburi suggest you can try the smaller regional consulates.

On the insurance side you will have to ask around. Most companies limit travel insurance to a short period in each year.

If it is health cover you need, I suggest you check out BUPA BLUE CROSS

here in Thailand for rates and then buy a policy as soon as you arrive.

One year on the Ruby rate is around 250 pounds a year, and will cover most

eventualities. Hospital expenses in Thailand are much cheaper than the UK.
