Enjoy good imported Moutarde, but I am not able to refrigerate full time after opening.

I noticed it gets discolored fairly quickly, but I think it is still safe to eat.

Can't imagine something with that much vinegar spoiling that quicky.

8-12 months opened.

1-2 years opened and refridgerated

Longer if unopened.

I got this info from wikipedia and a few other sites.

Mainly, I was just curious. Seems bacteria does not thrive well in acidic environments.

Also depends on the mustard at hand. Some mustards just don't cut the mustard as well (shelf)

Above are minimum times.

If you ever buy mustard powder be careful during the rainy season as I was sure my Coleman's was sealed but the dampness crept in and made the whole container mouldy.

Refrigerated mustard should be okay for quite a while though as the vinegar in French mustards does keep the bacteria at bay.

Same happened to me, even though the tin was factory sealed...and it wasn't the rainy season.

Have a Nice Day.

Just checked a container of prepared mustard in the fridge that I bought in June. It shows that "it's best used by August 26. 2015." Don't see any mention of when it was bottled, but it's imported so it can't have been that recent. Looks like it's got to be good to go for more than a year, but on 27th August 2015 things could get ugly.

In previous years, I've brought back some tubes of German "Löwensenf" from my trips to Germany.

But I've found out that it tastes like nothing, if you've frozen it before.

In a refrigerator, I would say, 4-6 months unopened, but if you're unlucky, the mustard has lost all it's hotness and tastes only salty.

Happened to me a few times.

It's like honda. It pretty much lasts forever.

I'd say not more than a year. But even beyond that, if it still tastes okay, I'd eat it. You can't really go by looks, as many foods oxidize rather quickly but are still safe to eat. Cut apples and potatoes start to turn brown within minutes of exposure to air, but they're still perfectly okay to eat.

where to buy mustard seed or mustard powder in thailand? cant find it. just personal use. not big volume

I enjoy the flavour of Colemans powdered mustard but not the ready mixed styles. I don't use mustard that often so I find that the tins of Colemans mustard powder spoil after a while - maybe I shouldn't have kept it in the fridge?

What I have found though is McGarretts mustard powder. American brand. Small yellow tin, very, very similar to Colemans and available in BigC, Tesco Lotus, Tops, Villa. Less than 40baht a tin.
