July 22, 201412 yr We have a network with many folders on the "server". Staff computers run Windows 7 (or WinXP) and have Shortcuts to their folder on the server. One staff with a lot shortcuts on the Desktop has from time to time....say once a month that these shortcuts disappear. I don't know what happens before. My best guess is, that it happens if the server is switched off (example electric failure) and than the computer can't find the destination. But that might or might not be true. Any solution for that? I don't have the same problem on the other computers, so I hope it is just a setting somewhere.

July 23, 201412 yr Do you regularly, say once a month, run a maintenance program that deletes the broken or unused shortcuts?
July 23, 201412 yr Author This MS article may help especially if that one staff member has more than 4 broken shortcuts since he/she seems to use a lot of shortcuts and may be deleting/moving some files linked to shortcuts on an approx monthly basis: Link That's it! All the other computers have just 1-3 shortcuts. That is the only computer with 5. They are of course never broken (beside in rare cases of electric failure). But the Microsoft Network sharing never works like it should. It is common that some computer can't be seen but accessed or getting the now permission message when the systems are up for a longer time and needs a reboot. Than the "System Maintenance troubleshooter", they should call it "System Maintenance troublemaker" removes the shortcuts. I don't know how they could get this idea. If you work with a laptop, visiting customer, but having several shortcuts for the network when in the office you would have the same problem
