TAT uses shopping to attract Vietnamese tourists to Thailand this low season

BANGKOK, 27 July 2014 (NNT) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched a campaign to promote tourism in low season, or the green season, in Thailand by offering discounts at major department stores and cheap plane tickets of Thai AirAsia.

Deputy Governor of the TAT Wilaiwan Thawitsi said the TAT invited foreign tourists to shop at leading department stores in Thailand and enjoy discounts from many brand names. The low-cost airline Thai AirAsia also joined in the TAT’s green season campaign by offering cheap tickets to Thailand from Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi for Vietnamese tourists, Ms Wilaiwan said.

The TAT and Thai AirAsia organized the event “Thailand Shopping Paradise with AirAsia” at Aeon Mall in Ho Chi Minh from 26-27 July 2014. The event targeted the Vietnamese tourists who had high purchasing power and liked traveling abroad.

Crackdown planned on resorts in forests in Kanchanaburi

KANCHANABURI: -- The National Parks and Wildlife Department is to launch an extensive inspection of land ownership in two national parks and one wildlife sanctuary in Kanchanaburi to determine if all the resorts and oil palm plantations there legal.

Damages from Betong car bombing stand at THB30 million

BANGKOK, 27 July 2014 (NNT) - Yala province has reported that the total damages caused by the recent car bombing in Betong district was estimated at over 30 million baht. Compensation for the dead victims is 500,000 baht each.

Yala governor Detrat Simsiri said the explosion claimed two lives and injured 44 others, four of whom were in critical conditions. The bombing also damaged seven cars, 47 motorcycles and 43 commercial buildings. The total cost of damages was 30.7 million baht, the governor said.

Mr Detrat added that the incident affected Thai tourists the most while their Malaysian counterparts did not panic as much. The governor therefor expressed his belief that tourist confidence would be restored soon.

The Betong people were not very concerned about the incident and they were still confident in security in the district, Mr Detrat said.
