Cheap Thai Women

Here's a departure from the usual greedy Thai women (hooker) thread. My Thai girlfriend, and her sister are cheap. Thrifty, penny pinching, tight economical, whatever. Her sister is married to an American who first pointed this out to me. Do any of you, who have a Thai mate have a similar situation? They won't let me leave a decent tip or buy them anything extravagant. My girlfriend is helping me look for a place for us to live now and is constantly finding these shacks in less than desirable areas. I assure her it's OK to spend this much but she says I should save my money. It's kinda sweet really. She gives a lot to her local temple to make merit but otherwise lives simply. Just a cultural thing or is she an exception? Sure is different from the American women!! :o

Well, I am sure she could be one he_l of a financial advisor for my fiance :D Can you lend it to me for a few cups of coffee? We could go and have a beer and leave them talking, maybe we could both get rid of our problems :D

Can my wife join in ? Please .

... always checks the restaurant ... and has memorised the prices in the supermarket...

not so much over here however...she recons everyone in the UK is honest :D but if whenever in Black Canyon the bill usually goes back and forward at least 3 times before i get to escape the place.

On the terrace of the Oriential Hotel one evening she asked for a "non alki" cocktail but they made a mistake and put some Gin in it..... :D Still got (my) her money back and another free one. to boot....this time Non A.... :D ...another 1 rai....... :o

Not just thrifty wives...but mother in laws!

"Yai" (and the woman next door) will stand there with the face and presence of a Cape Buffalo...Until the price comes down!

Screw your hard thai men and fiddling Sino Thai "businesses"...We bought some sodding great things for the garden. There were three sizes and we chose the largest. 15 miles to deliver to the house.

Much huffing and puffing and the price (shaved a bit) . ..Included delivery.

We were out that day. Could they drop them off?

"Yes, they could."

Sneaky toads tried to drop off the mid sized models.

OUT RUSHED THE NEIGHBOUR who was there at the sale.

"AIIEEE!" (The female sonic boom)

You can take them back!

Take em back, take em back, BACK!"

THEY went back and then came BACK again. Before returning BACK to the shop (60 delivery miles)

...Came home. Everything sorted. Much laughter and strutting!

Generals win Wars.

Battles are won by sargeants.

Luv it!

I wouldn't say my Thai wife is Cheap but she is careful in the extreme... When we go to the supermarket like Big C she will stand at the end of the checkout and cross check all the items on the bill. sheesh!

I would send mine money when I was out of country and when I came back she actually several of the receipts from things she bought and the majority of the money still in her bank. She sat me down and told me everything she bought. When I told her that it was okay if she spent more she would replied, "Too expensive, honey!" When she knows I was farang-like food (like the pizza company, which half-ass, half-farang like) she will go there and only get a salad while I get something big to eat. When I say that she can get more she replies, "Too expensive, honey!" She always gets irritated when I tried to give her a little extra money and when I ask why she says that she didn't marry me for my money...something my first wife (native of Oklahoma) would have fainted at hearing. :o In a few months she will be over here in the U.S. and, boy, is she in for a suprise.

Totally agree, it's the way they were raise. They wont feel safe if they have no money and spend lots of money for anything. Everything is expensive for them. One Baht is worth for.

As long as they have lots of money and becoming successful in life and all their dreams come true, then they shall spend money.

I once have a Taiwanese friend who is extremely thrifty, everything for her is expensive. Hundred of time talking only expensive, but she herself never bought any dress or pants here, all she got from her sisters from home when she visit Taiwan. She has a good earning job and shall soon become her Phd. She at least earn 10 times more than me, but I prefer pay her a lunch or coffee instead of letting her pay for me once and have a bad dream at home.

Once I invited her for Thai Chrismas Party at my place and everybody should have small present(worth 15 EU.-) to exchange each other ( just for fun ) each can buy anthing for present. She came with a big present box, and a friend who shared the party got her present, opened it and found out that there were some chestnuts inside and a small candle that people get for free for the graveyard. The girl who got this box was surprised but she had lots of fun, she said the present was good for her squiral at home too. :D I , who felt little uneasy for this situation, had to buy some little present once again and gave to the girl later, as a thank you for sharing our party. :D

But Thai wont be thrifty when they cook thai food I think. They shall spend lots of money for expensive thai veggi and invite many pepple to join in.

Normally I am not thrifty, but I always have a bag made by cotton, instead of plastic bag, in my handbag, for shopping. My sisters look :D at me and might think I am really thrifty, but I dont care.

But spending money is quite a happy feeling, just as spending for a nice Trip ,a nice vacation, a nice Ipot, a nice camera, a nice shoes, a good eating once in a while, a nice evening out, or a nice cope of good Italian Icecream..... :o and a nice Belguim chocolate and a nice bunch of white lily and a big basket of Durian.....hummmmm :D and....

There are definately lots of Thai women who are very frugal. My wife now employs her frugal ways in the UK, and yes, she does the "stand and check" at the routine here too! She has actually caught the supermarket on many occasions not applying the correct discount. She knows every price and evry offer backwards. She only buys clothes here from the supermarket and never from the "expensive" high street shops. I have never done this in my life, but now I reap the rewards! She has many Thai friends in the UK and many of them are sending money back to help their families. Most are doing this with their own money (wages) and work very very hard for it. I guess to then waste the money on expensive stuff would be too much to bear when it can go so much afrther back home. You can tell how frugal your partner is by looking in the fridge. Ours in crammed with lots of little plastic containers with all manner of food inside. NOTHING gets wasted here. I on the other hand, like most falang, will sling stuff away the very second I don't fancy it any more!

Great stories! I agree with the premise that being raised in relative poverty shapes a persons outlook. Like my parents who were raised during the depression. They never threw anything away.

It sounds like I could do worse. I can't wait for our first visit back to the states. Take her shopping on Rodeo drive just for fun :o

My wife does the same thing. She's convinced if the cashiers aren't out to screw you and pocket the change, then it's the machines that can't be trusted for accuracy.

In the States, she shops at the Thrift Stores. I admit she does exceptionally well at finding good quality at the lowest price. But on the other hand, she's bought so many shoes and purses that it would put the Imelda Marcos Collection to shame. How many does she use? One. I ask her why on earth does she need more purses and shoes? Her reply is that she's saving them to give to her sisters the "next time' we're in Thailand. She only has two sisters and it'd take a sea freighter to haul the load. And every time we go to Thailand, not so much as a single pair of those shoes and purses are taken along.

Go figure.

Females have a strange attraction to shoes, dont know what it is, my fiancee has pairs that look the same as others, I said " why you buy many shoes that look nearly the same". She gave me this filthy look and i had to back off slowly, I think she is shoe crazy

I am an American woman, I can't say I actually "chose" to live in thailand, but I can say that your "American Women" generalisation is a load of crap.

I have no problems walking, taking the "choo choo" train, the bus, or even the khlong boats to get to where I need to go. At the same time, my "other american female friends" after realising that they were not going to get lost, now do the same.

I think you found a gem (in your gf) but that applies to women from all over the world. We are how our parents raised us and a product (to some degree) of our environment.

p.s. my frugal attitude, embaresses my husband.

Has to be how they were brought up and the values that they set due to their up bringing. An example my father age 87, Polish age17 at the start of WW2 spent 2 years in a Siberia Russ cncentratiion camp, 3 years on a trip around N Africa any now living in a home. We cleared his small house out this year over 7skips loads approx 4sq yds per skip of rubbish, tools, nothing of any use and the guy who did the clearing said his Polish father was the same.If you never have anything or experience these things you cannot addapt that easily.

On the wife side I have always managed to buy the luxury model........twice!!!!! :o
