30 day stamp at MaeSai land border crossing?

Talking with some fellow falangs about visas today and one of them insists he got a free 30 day visa at the Maesai land border crossing just a few days ago,

he didn't have his passport on him, so I couldn't check for myself if he did get 30 days, but he kept insisting that he got a 30 day stamp

Do any of you guys know if this is happening?

I think the guy was French, he said they'd changed the rules and they were now giving 30 days instead of 15 days...

France is a member of the g7, they do indeed get 30 days at a land border.

France is a member of the G7 and Thailand changed this on 1/11/2013
