Questions about Non immigrant O-A visa with philippino wife

Featured Replies

A little history first. I lived in Thailand for 4 years on a Non O visa for retirement purposes. I am a US citizen and had no problems. I since moved to the Philippines and got married now I want to come back to Thailand. Before I arrived in Thailand on a tourist visa and went to Immigration and had it changed to a Non O. I can't get a non O in the Philippines because they said I have to have a resident visa here to apply for one and I only been on a tourist visa here. I want to move back to Thailand with my wife. So my question is if we come to Thailand on tourist visas and go to immigration to apply for a non O will we have any problems? I know my wife can stay with me as a dependent on my visa but I am concerned with 2 different passports if there will be a problem? Of course with have copies of marriage license and all necessary paperwork and if we both had US passports I wouldn't think there would be a problem but now I would like to know if anyone has been thru this situation with different passports applying for a NON O visa? Thanks

You can convert in Thailand to a non-immirgant visa, but your wife cannot. As your dependent she will have to wait till you have converted to and then apply for a non-O visa herself in a neighbouring country as your dependent. Then when you get your extension based on retirement, she can get an extension based on being your dependent.

They may of told you no for a visa in Manila because you were asking about a OA visa. You cannot get that there unless you are a resident. You should be able to get a single entry non-o visa there for being 50 or over.
