ONEP reaffirms tunnel and overpass won't affect Khao Yai World Heritage site

BANGKOK, 12 August 2014 (NNT) –The Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) has reaffirmed that the tunnel and overpass constructions through Khao Yai National Park and Thap Lan National Park will not affect the World Heritage Site.

The ONEP secretary-general Kasemsan Jinnawaso has revealed that it has adopted several policies to limit adverse effects including wildlife overpasses, speed limits, soundproof barriers and fences separating communities and forest.

Also, applicable laws will be strictly enforced. The construction won't affect reserve plant life or animals in the wild. The ecosystem in these areas will also be revived.

Moreover, the new route will complement logistics in the northeastern region efficiently. After the cabinet approves the project, it will take about 9 months to 1 year to complete the project.

oh sure... of course.

Also, applicable laws will be strictly enforced.    What a joke for Thailand !........This would a rare case indeed......More likely

several "misunderstandings" will occur and after the foul deed is discovered another official will be transferred.  I wonder, how many

officials are transferred in a normal year ? Are they  punished and have to return the illbegotten wealth ?

Does any one have a roadmap of this new highway ?

will it go propably more north than current highway no. 2 ?

hope not just beside my weekendhouse; Cha Om area;

These plebs would not have the slightest clue to any effects that may be placed on Khao Yai........

Amazing stuff really

The only way to expand the road system is through/under a national park, how is that possible.

Whilst it sounds pretty critical of the situation here in Thailand I just cannot let it go even if I have to risk a ban.

There is no need to do it the way they say they have to.

They won't protect anything

Just look at roadworks in other areas.

The only good part is the locals are able to gather up the destructed tree wood that has been there for 50 odd years.

I remain disenchanted with the effort to protect the environment.
