mikemellow
I am extending a tourist visa at immigration in Bangkok and I am wondering if I can get a longer than a 30 day extension for medical purposes? I have a letter from my doctor and a list of proceedures to be done by my dental clinic and past paid receipts. They need about 5 months more to complete all my dental work. I don't expect a 5 month extension but 90 days would be great.
Mario2008
Depends on your nationality, for gulf state nationals it might be possible. The requirement for a regular medical extension is that you are unable to travel, I would guess that is not that the case. But you can of course try. I think it will result in you going to Laos and applying for a double entry tourist visa. With extensions that should give you almost 6 months. That seems so odd that Thailand only caters to gulf states for medical tourism. I wonder why that could be? Does any one know what the Thai logic is for not wanting to cater to medical tourism from Europe and America?

You can accept their regular procedures or pay a lot of money to have your own applied. Edited August 14, 2014 by paz

The gulf states are nearby, many people there have plenty of money to spend and many places lack quality medical services. People from the US and Europe can easily apply for a visa for medical treatment. The number of Americans who want to travel half way around the world to be treated in Thailand isn't likely to be that many, but they can do it easily if they want.
