Foreign Tourists Complain About Pattaya Traffic Police

PATTAYA – August 14, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; late at night, Pol.Col. Supphathee Boonkhrong (Acting Superintendent of Pattaya city police station) had received complaints from some Kuwaiti tourist and United Arab Emirates tourists that they were arrested and made to pay very expensive fines.

Rains, inadequate drainage cause Patong streets to flood 50cm

PHUKET: Rains that swept over Phuket throughout last night and into the morning left many parts of Patong flooded this morning, with some areas measuring floodwater as high as 50 centimeters.

Deputy secretary general of Sheikhul Islam Office, driver killed in road accident

SURAT: -- A deputy secretary general of the Sheikul Islam Office and a van driver were killed in a road accident Saturday morning that saw five others severely injured.

Police said the accident happened on the southern-bound Highway No 41 in Surat Thani's Phunpin district.

The van lost control and crashed against a tree and was reduced into wreckage, police said.

The driver, Somwan Jaemsai, was killed at the scene. Rassami Damchawai, deputy secretary general of the Sheikul Islam Office, died at the Surat Thani Hospital.

PHUKET: This morning, Thiwa Yaem Ying, 45, of Phang Nga filed a report with Thalang Police that someone had broken into her Thalang room and stolen all her savings, which had been sealed in a ceramic piggy-bank.

Owner of fallen condo compensates victims with 1 million baht

BANGKOK, 16 August 2014 (NNT) – Injured victims of the recent collapse of a condominium building in Pathum Thani and relatives of the dead will receive compensation worth 1 million baht in total from the project owner while one more engineer has reported himself to the police.

300 KG of Marijuana bars seized in Lopburi

LOPBURI, 16 Aug 2014, (NNT) - Police have arrested a man in Lopburi Province and seized marijuana bars weighing 300 kilograms worth 3 million baht and several tools used in drug production.

The suspect, Udom Dejdom, a native of Nong Khai, was arrested on Thursday at a residence in Khaolam Sub-district, Chaibadan District of the Province.

According to the authorities, they learned about Mr. Udom from an interrogation of another suspect, Niran ‘Tum’ Kotangka, a dealer of a notorious drug ring in Wang Noi District of Ayutthaya Province.

Mr. Udom initially claimed that the marijuana bars and the tools belonged to another man known simply as Mr. Samon. Police officers have charged Mr. Udom with illegal possession of narcotics for resale.

Border protest shuts down Aranyaprathet checkpoint

Thai security officials ordered the temporary closure of the border checkpoint at Aranyapraythet Saturday after more than 300 Cambodian labour and border traders protested the Thai authorities over tightened checks on their second-hand merchandises wheeled in for sale at the Talad Rong Kluea market.
