A military transport truck damaged by a roadside bomb in Narathiwat is inspected by police Explosives Ordnance Disposal personnel.

YALA: -- Two security personnel were killed and three others wounded in two separate roadside bomb attacks in Yala and Narathiwat yesterday.

In Yala's Kabang district, a seven-man squad of special operations police on four motorcycles was hit before noon while escorting teachers.

Lance Corporal Sarawuth Choothanom was pronounced dead at a hospital, while the patrol leader Lieutenant Montree Phummorradok was sent to a hospital in Songkhla.

An Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officer said a 5kg bomb was packed in a fire extinguisher and put in a fertiliser sack. It was detonated by a two-way radio.

In Narathiwat's Muang district, a military transport truck carrying three Army paramilitary rangers was targeted by bomb fixed to a motorcyle parked by a main road.

The blast killed Siri Jiaranai, who was pronounced dead at a hospital, and wounded the other two soldiers including team leader Sgt-Major Sanya Phromephetnil.

Sanya said the truck was transporting several barrels full of petrol to a ranger base in another district, but the blast did not ignite any of the barrels.

EOD personnel said the 10kg bomb was detonated by a two-way radio.

Police said that insurgents stole the motorcycle used in the attack from a 62-year-old woman on Tuesday after shooting her dead and then repainting the bike blue.

From the OP "Police said that insurgents stole the motorcycle used in the attack from a 62-year-old woman on Tuesday after shooting her dead and then repainting the bike blue"

Constant extreme cruelty against the civilians, how do the security forces turn this to their advantage? often informers are murdered - what witness protection is made available?

The bombing is bad enough , but shooting an old lady dead just to nick her Motorbike ?.

Admittedly and maybe embarrassingly I don't know much about what is going on in the south , I see the "2 Dead" "3 Dead" reports every other week in the newspapers. Are these people just separatists or full on Jihadists ? I cannot get my head around them killing and old women to steal her motorbike

Police on manhunt for culprits behind Yala attack

YALA, 16 August 2014 (NNT) - Yala police have identified and launched a manhunt for the culprits responsible for the recent bomb attack in the province that killed at least two of their officers on Friday.

According to Yala police superintendent Colonel Sukhon Sri-arun, a team of investigators has been dispatched to search an area behind a local school where the home of Adam Musodi, a member of the Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK) insurgent group, is located. The search followed Friday’s roadside bomb attack in the province’s Kabang district, which killed at least two police officers who were part of a patrol unit on duty to give protection to teachers.

Mr. Adam, also a bomb specialist of the RKK group, has already been wanted by the authorities for previous attacks, said Col. Sukhon.

The police have also been searching for Mr. Adam’s accomplice who are believed to have been hiding in nearby areas. No suspect has been found yet.

Violent attacks have been reported almost daily in Thailand’s three southernmost provinces since 2004 and to date more than 5,000 lives have been lost .

And someone some weeks ago said there was nothing wrong with living in Yala, they must have had their eyes and ears closed for the past few decades.
