I'm American. I need a job in Pattaya. Any suggestions? I don't need to make a lot of money. I just need something that will keep me occupied for about 30 hours per week.

Thanks

you and thousands of others tallen....what specialist skills have you got that would enable you to get a work permit? :o

Some of the language schools advertize constantly for teachers.

I take it you understand your employer will have to get you a work permit - something that ties up a lot of money and they will not do casually.

The way you phrased your message "keep me occupied" and "don't need a lot of money".. there are lots of expat volunteer organizations here, particularly working with children (personally I'd like to see more helping with the old folks). If that is something that interests you, post back and I'm sure other board members can supply details.

BUt if you do want to help with destitute and orphaned kids, let me know and I can find you work. No salary though, I'm afraid.

I know of a number of farangs who have set up their own little businesses, and formed a company with say around 2 million Baht, and depending on the nature of the business, a company like like this can usually support one work permit - especailly of you are married to a Thai, and have Thai staff, (in fact you must have Thai staff). A good lawyer can advise.

Mobi,

no Thai staff required at all for obtaining a workpermit!

The Thai staff (4 persons, or 1 in case your company does consultancy) is required once you want an extension of stay based on employment. You'd also need to pay tax on a minimum amount of salary (60,000/month in case of Europeans) to obtain this extension.

So if you don't mind doing a small trip every 90 days, or if you qualify for an extension of stay on another basis (marriage, investment, but not retirement) you don't need the Thai staff...

Teach English. If you are going to work without a work permit. which i do not advise, you could even freelance. However do not cross anybody that way you will not be "dobbed in" :o
