Trump's Deportation Drama: Polls Reveal Public Backlash

President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown is facing serious challenges, as recent polls reveal widespread disapproval of his mass deportation policies. Despite significant efforts by the administration to expand Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations, public sentiment is increasingly negative.

A Gallup survey in June highlights that 62% of Americans disapprove of Trump's immigration approach, with over twice as many strongly disapproving as approving.

This downward trend is mirrored across political spectra. Gallup found nearly 70% of independent voters dissatisfied with Trump's handling of immigration. Similar findings from NPR-PBS and Quinnipiac University underscore a growing rejection, especially concerning deportations and ICE's methods.

Contrary to objectives, these policies coincide with historic lows in border crossings, yet the deportation tactics remain unpopular. A Quinnipiac poll indicates 66% of independents disapprove of Trump's deportation handling, while 59% of respondents, overall, express dissatisfaction. Additional data from Marist suggests over half of Americans feel ICE has exceeded its mandate.

Heavy-handed measures, such as conducting workplace raids and building more detention facilities, have also met resistance. Pew Research reports 54% disapproval of increased workplace raids and a significant dismissal of new detention strategies, like Florida's “Alligator Alcatraz.”

A striking 61% disapprove of the contentious practice of deporting undocumented immigrants to unsafe locales like prisons in El Salvador. These actions, sometimes marred by errors, have further eroded trust and fuelled complaints about human rights violations.

Although Trump's base remains staunch, the broader American populace reflects a shift in sentiment. Gallup shows a drop in support for deporting all undocumented immigrants, and empathy towards migrants has surged to the highest level in two decades, with 79% viewing immigration positively.

TThese patterns suggest that Trump's hardline policies may be counterproductive, as they contradict the promises he made during the election campaign. While the administration doubles down, it may need to rethink its strategy amid growing public discontent and shifting priorities.

The hard facts that Trump does not want you to know?

Each detainee is assigned a threat level by ICE on a scale of 1 to 3, with one being the highest. Those without a criminal record are classified as having "no ICE threat level." As of June 23, the latest data available, 84 per cent of people detained at 201 facilities nationwide were not given a threat level. Another 7 per cent had been graded as a level 1 threat, 4 per cent were level 2 and 5 per cent were level 3.

Nonpublic data obtained by the libertarian think-tank Cato Institute shows that as of June 14, 65 per cent of the more than 204,000 people processed into the system by ICE since the start of fiscal year 2025, which began Oct. 1, 2024, had no criminal convictions. Of those with convictions, only 6.9 per cent had committed a violent crime, while 53 per cent had committed nonviolent crimes that fell into three main categories — immigration, traffic or vice crimes.

Research has consistently found, however, that immigrants are not driving violent crime in the U.S. and that they actually commit fewer crimes than native-born Americans. A 2023 working paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research, for example, reported that immigrants for 150 years have had lower incarceration rates than those born in the U.S. In fact, the rates have declined since 1960 — according to the paper, immigrants were 60 per cent less likely to be incarcerated.

"President Trump has justified this immigration agenda in part by making false claims that migrants are driving violent crime in the United States, and that's just simply not true," said Lauren-Brooke Eisen, senior director of the justice program at the Brennan Center for Justice. "There's no research and evidence that supports his claims."

Hispanic Support For Donald Trump's Deportations Surges

Support for President Donald Trump's deportations has surged among Hispanic voters in the space of two months, according to a new poll.

The survey, conducted by polling firm Cygnal between July 1 and 2, revealed that the percentage of Hispanic voters that strongly support the deportation of people in the United States illegally rose by 11 percent between May and July 2025.

The poll was conducted on 1,500 people and had a margin of error of +/- 2.51 percent.

Mind you, if there is a drop in recorded violent crime, could it be that it is because many of the usual perpetrators are attracted to joining the swelling masked ranks of ICE?🤔

Ohh please... Lots of incidents under every politician has had police wearing masks either to protect their identities as undercover or to protect their families from threats by mafia. To use this as your reasoning is ludicrous. The ICE are only doing their jobs the best way they can. For decades, Immigration have conducted raids on factories and plantations without a peep from anyone simply because the opposing political party never used it against the reigning party. Democrats have turned this into a circus. Using drama, inciting protests, encouraging vandalism and attacks against these same government workers that conducted many raids in the past without fear.

Also your point on illegal immigrants has no merit when it comes to the crime rate. The fact is ICE is arresting criminals. Either by entering the US illegally or by lying about their criminal history or using the US to hide from their own countries punishments on their crimes in their prospective countries. These people may not have driven the countries crime rate up yet, but that does not mean they have not committed crimes in the US. They simply were not caught yet or have not begun to do so yet.

One last thing. You quote some paper made in 2023. When Biden was pushing everyone to accept these illegals into their cities and neighborhoods. Totally biased based on the rhetoric of that time and the insistence of the Dem. president to accept them. Akin to being told by the government that something is safe when they really do not and can not say this for sure.

Still less illegals deportation than Biden. Perhaps the reason for ICE to arrest those without criminal records and based on physical appearance. Have to propped up the numbers to made it look good for the dear leader. So far, deportation is less than 1% of his promise of deporting 10-15 million immigrants living in USA.

Thats pure bull from the msm.

You didnt say Jack when Obama did the same so you have zero credibility  now

Personally I believe that the US immigration enforcement should be on par with the Thai immigration enforcement.
What I have a problem with is that in the US it seems to take a SWAT team of balaclava-clad agents with automatic weapons to make a simple arrest for an overstay or entering the country illegally as oppose to immigration police (ICE) simply dressing in regular cop clothes and arresting illegals. It's complete overkill. Then for progressive Lefties to go out on the street and violently attack ICE agents doesn't help the matter as that then creates the exact conditions that ICE needs as an excuse to hide the identity of its agents and arm them to the teeth.  Granted, Biden made a mess by allowing literally millions to cross the border which is a direct National Security risk to the US.

I'm sorry - when I hear sob stories like, "Pedro and his Mexican wife have been living in the US illegally for 10 years and have 4 children and Pedro and his wife have built a small business an enjoy a wonderful life in America."
Imagine if we heard that, "Bob and Nancy Smith have been living in Thailand illegally for 10 years and have 2 children and Bob and his wife have built a small business and enjoy a wonderful life in Thailand."

The exact people who scream that Pedro should be allowed to stay in the US would be laughing and cheering when Thai Immigration deports Bob and his family.   Think about that.  :glare:

I guess if it wasn't for the anti-ICE hate rhetoric being pushed by the left and ICE were not being aggressively molested/attacked whilst doing their jobs they wouldn't have to.
