Shoppaholics In Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hey there,

Myself and 3 of my friends are thinking of stopping over in Bangkok for 2 days on the way back from a vacation in Phuket. We were wanting to cram as much shopping into these 2 days as possible.

I was wondering where the best area to stay is if we want to be close to lots of shopping?

Better still, if anyone can reccomend a nice place to stay in the mid price range?

Also, would you say that Bangkok is a reasonably safe place for 4 girls to travel around in?

Thanks for your help! :o

I recommend staying close to MBK and Siam center. On the other hand, no matter where you stay - taxi fees in Bangkok are very reasonable, especially if you are three and the driver uses a meter.

How much is mid price range?

If you will be in Bangkok on the weekend, check out the weekend market near Mo Chit Skytrain station. It is huge and has everything you can imagine.

Hi ,

For the hotel I would suggest The Arnoma ( http://www.arnoma.com/) which is right in the middle of several shopping areaq

- Pratunam

- Siam center, siam discovery

- Siam Paragon

- MBK

Between BTS stations Siam and Chit lom ( but you can also use the skywalk which is very convenient).

If you make a reservation through a travel agency, the room rate is 2700 TB / night for a twin/double room BKF included.

Late check out is available till 2pm.

Thanks so much for all of your help!

I will look into the Arnoma and the area's around MBK.

:o

Novotel Siam Sq is great .... the location can't be beat for various reasons ...

shopping

access to both skytrain lines ....

short cheap hops by taxi to the shopping areas NOT on the skytrain lines

More budget accomodation can be found on Soi Kasem san 1 -- its right opposite MBK.

Hi

Try http://www.kritthaimansion.com/about.asp

Within about 3 mins walk from MBK and right by BTS, as well as convienient for winding down at Jim Thompson house for club sarnie & a beer. Also close to mega Tesco's

All for less than 900 baht a night per double room with breakfast, basic but convienient.

IMHO Bangkok no more dangerous than Phuket.

TBWG :o

The best place would have to be the Emporium Suites above the Emporium Shopping Center.

Just an elevator ride to all you need.

Good restaurants in there and it connects to the Skytrain. Nice.

Pick up a Nancy Chandler Map if you can. She includes a nice little guide in there.

The town is very safe but there are thousands of clever scam artists out there preying on first timers in Thailand.

Especially the Taxies and the Tuk Tuk guys are the worst.
