As usual, they get together at some swanky resort and spend 2-3 days 'discussing' things and they have a great time at taxpayer's expense. Then when it is over they release some PR BS that details all the brilliant ideas that they came up with to improve things for Thailand. This is one of those BS things that comes out after one of those junkets. -

On the other hand, they could adjust it downward. They seem desperate to get people to come here for longer periods of time and they especially have their eyes on remittances. They might just elect to go with an adjustable table for retirement. That is, if you live in a poorer less populated province, that province's requirement for retirement might be adjusted to 500,000 or 600,000 per year, while Bangkok remained at 800,000. Why not? I actually overheard a conversation among immigration officers at Nakhon Pathom discussing this exact thing. -

Khao Yai National Park - Getting around
You can drive yourself and just pay the entry fee. It used to be 400 baht. Camping is possible. I have friends that goes there every year on camping. I stay half the year very close to the park and I have travelled through the park many times, Also been halted by wild elephants that sometimes like to stop the cars and let them wait for a while until they get bored and walk away! You can also book with people that will take you into the jungle to look for wild elephants and other creatures! I have friends doing that but I forget the name of the company. Just go online and find out. Good luck! -
