Retirement Visa

Featured Replies

In January 2014,I left Thailand to live in Vietnam. My Thai partner/2 dogs travelled overland with possessions from Chiang Mai to Hoi An,Vietnam

Between 2008 and Dec 2013, I lived in Thailand on a Retirement Visa.Year extensions straightforward.

We want to return to Thailand to live in next few months, and would come overland again via Laos to Thailand.

I have the necessary funds etc to get a retirement visa again, and this is my intention asap.

I assume I would receive a tourist visa on entering Thailand, and then will convert to retirement visa asap.

Does anyone anticipate any problems on entering Thailand again. We will have rented a property over the internet,so we will have a destination.

Thanks AS

Unless you are from a G7 country you will only get a 15 day visa exempt entry (not a tourist visa). Fifteen days is not enough time to do the conversion to a non immigrant vies entry because 15 days is the minimum time remaining on your entry to do it. Even 30 days probably would not be enough.

You should get a single entry non-o visa or at least a single entry tourist visa before making the trip.

You could probably stop by the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet and get a Non-O visa for visiting your wife, that'd be a step on the way to a visa extension for purposes of Retirement when you get here. Alternatively, at least get a Tourist visa in Savannakhet.

Partner normally means there is no marriage so any visa will be for over age 50 and intending to extend for retirement - as passport shows such getting a new visa should not be a problem.
