Bangkok Administration reorganizes Sukhumvit Road areas

Have to love the exact measurements which of course will be rigorously enforced.

I haven't been to Bkk in many years but the last time was a nightmare trying to walk down Sukhumvit from Soi 11 to the Robinson area. It did improve my dancing skills though as I mastered the Paso Doble getting through the tiny space between vendors stalls and other pedestrians.

Ole ( in a Scottish accent ).

Oh it was you! I do apologize, I assumed it was a drunken jock tourist en route from Nana to Soi Cowboy! ☺

Ehm, is Soi Cowboy a tourist attraction ? Does it have a rodeo or just a cattle market ?

I defer to your obviously superior knowledge.

Never been there myself of course, but from what I have been told the latter rather fits the bill!

Oh thank the wee man it's ok to go. I was worried you might say it was noisy, there was alcohol of to be had and nearly naked women dancing.

I was walking yesterday and it was for once a nice walk. Many uniforms out but mostly standing around. Seems some of the venders now have set up with immunity on the steps of a store as I guess it is private property. Some were breaking the law/curfew and the uniforms did nothing. Not sure why. But it was nice to be able to walk in a straight line and not dodge, bob and weave.

I never understood how the vendors made a living. For years I have walked this route and it is a normal site for me to see maybe 3-5 customers from the Soi 4 to Asok intersection. And even some of these ask the price and then walk away. How is this a service to the tourist or Thais that need to walk the streets?

I thought we all going to Thailand on holiday for the local atmosphere and culture and now everyone wants it to disappeare ??tongue.png

Really, since when did the selling of dildos, sex dvd's, some of it kiddie porn, weapons, fake drugs and assorted fake goods become 'cultural'? the sooner this nonsense that you would not put up with at home is swept away the better.

Near Phom Pong BTS please, unpassable at times because of the food hunters stopping in the only half meter wide path between vendors on either side.

Read somewhere that under this new law, the vendors are allowed to occupy only side of the footpath instead of blocking both sides. That's a good move I guess since it would allow pedestrians to walk much easier.

That would be a step in the right direction. I always try to walk on the opposite side of the street on Sukhumvit, as the congestion is so extreme. It is an oppressive environment, and the police do zero. Hope that changes soon. Nodody needs the trinkets, clothing, knives, dildos, fake dvd's, or any of the other crap they are selling, anyway. They are all selling the same stuff, that can be bought anywhere.

The term cattle market although rather rude, does actually sum up what that area is about. A lot of pretty cows being checked out by a bunch of horny bulls moving from one holding pen to another.
