Ed Visa extension for infant under 2 years old

Featured Replies

I obtained an Ed visa for my son who will be 2 years old in December. I have now been told by his school that the MOE will not approve the paperwork for extension until he is actually 2. The 90 day visa will end November 10th, just over a month before his birthday.

I'm looking for some advice on how to overcome this issue, aside from leaving the country to apply for another 90 day Ed visa.

Does a 2 year old really need a visa?

The only option would be to go out for a new visa.

What is your status here? If you are on an extension of stay your child can get an extension as your dependent.

According to the new regulations coming in, it seems so.

They don't pay for overstay fines but should still have a valid permit to stay if staying here long term.

There has been no confirmation of any new rule or regulation. As of now it is only a rumor.

I'm on an Ed visa awaiting first extension. My wife is on a non-imm O based on guardianship of one of our other kids. First extension for that kids visa is in progress.

So extension can be granted as a dependent even on an Ed visa? In that case, might just do that rather than leave the country again.

Once you have your extension done you could get the extension for your child with the non-ed visa. All that is required to get the extension is a non immigrant visa.

Does this also mean that I can extend my Ed visa based on guardianship of one of my kids also on an Ed visa? Meaning I won't have to leave the country to change it to a non-O so long as I fulfill the other requirements (500k, birth cert etc)?

You could get get an extension based upon being the parent of a child attending school as long as it not the one your wife has the extension for. You could do it with your ED visa entry.
