Changing ED to Non-B

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am about to register a new company and will have the capital etc to get a work permit.

At the moment I am just on a ED visa, so I guess I will have to change it to a non-B right.

Can I do this in Thailand? Or do I have to piss off to another country to get it?

If so, I would prefer to go to Laos or Cambodia to do it.

So, how long would I have to stay abroad to get all of this processed?

Thanks

Visa category could be converted but is long process done only at certain offices under certain conditions.

In practice it's faster to get a new visa. In Savannakhet Laos visa are issued on the same day.

No, you don't have to piss off to another country. Because yours is a new company, ie the company does not have a tax record for a full fiscal year, you cannot simply go and get a new one-year extension of stay, this time for the reason of employment, but instead you have to travel, not piss off, to a Thai consulate and get a non-B visa.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

You can apply for your work permit while you are on an extension of stay for study or on any other type of permission to stay, but to pick up the work permit once it is ready you will need the non-B visa in your passport.

As far as I know there are no visa run companies going to Savannakhet.

You can get a VIP bus from Bangkok to Mukdahan and then get the bus to Savannakhet that stops while you clear immigration.

Nok Air and Air Asia have flights to Mukdahan that are a fly/ride service via Nakhon Phanom that will take you to the bridge.

Dependent on where he applies for the work permit he may have to go out for a tourist visa before applying for the work permit. There are some work permit offices that will not accept an application if you have a ED visa/extension.
