ED Visa - What is the final word on them?

Featured Replies

I haven't made a decision to attempt to live full time in Thailand yet but the idea does intrique me and I do want to learn Thai but I can't get the facts straight on how this works.

If I wanted to do this today (Currently in the Philippines btw) what is the bottom line?

How many hours do I need to study? Can it be 1 day a week?

What are the school costs? Visa costs?

Can you keep renewing yearly with one exit a year?

If there is a complete topic with these facts feel free to point me to it. I just can't get a grip on this ED stuff.

How many hours you need to attend that is ultimately depends by the school, but unlikely 1 day a week only.

Normal price for one year is Bt 25,000

90 days extensions are Bt 1,900 each.

I suggest you wait a week or more and find out what the real deal is with ED Visas. Perhaps the information you get from a person who renewed today will be totally out of date next week. I don't want to change the theme of this post but just out of interest, what's your reason for moving from the PI to Thailand?

Food, infrastructure, safety haha? I'm just sick of it for now. I need something new. That's why I plan to rotate or something I already have a place here so I'm kinda stuck in a way but the TH visas don't make it easy so not much of a choice. I wont be old enough for the retirement visa for quite some time. I'm only 30 and I guess I'm finally craving a little bit of the first world feeling again. I think BKK is a nice mix of modern and still a little wild or maybe it's just something new.

Currently, it's 4 hours a week, and 1-2 days. This is looking like it's going to change to 4 days a week, and a minimum of 8 hours a week.

School costs are currently 25,000 bht, but this figure will be increasing due to the increased amount of study time.

Like RichardThailand mentioned, it's probably better to leave it a week or so, and keep an eye on things, to see how everything pans out.

This is a copy of an explanation of the new rules recently added to one language school's website: NEW REGULATIONS FOR THE STUDENT VISA AND WARNINGS.doc

The school is not a sponsor of TV so I can't post a link. PM me if you want it.
