British police commissioner urged to resign amid child abuse scandal

LONDON, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Police commissioner of South Yorkshire has been severely criticized and urged to resign by political leaders since an inquiry exposed shockingly child sexual abuses in Rotherham on Tuesday.

According to an independent inquiry carried out by professor Alexis Jay released on Tuesday, about 1,400 children in Rotherham, a large town in South Yorkshire, were sexually exploited from 1997 to 2013.

The report said that children were raped by multiple perpetrators, trafficked to other towns and cities in the north of England, abducted, beaten, and intimidated. Some had been doused in petrol and threatened with guns, and forced to witness violent rapes.

"There was growing evidence that child sexual exploitation was a serious problem in Rotherham," it said, adding that the collective failures of political and officer leadership were blatant.

Roger Stone, leader of Rotherham council, resigned on Tuesday in wake of the publication of the report.

Shaun Wright, Police and Crime Commissioner of South Yorkshire refused to resign although leaders from different sections called him to stand down from his position on Wednesday.

Police complicity in the rape of children? Disgusting.

The "Great Empire", truly an example.
And the "police" "man" does not even have the decency to step down.
I hope they lock up the perpetrators with the life-long convicts.

The PCC is nothing more than a political position; and a contentious one, at that. Yes, he should stand down, or be fired. But the man in charge is the South Yorkshire Chief Constable, so why aren't there demands for his head?

Police complicity in the rape of children? Disgusting.

The police were not complicit per se, they chose to ignore it and hoped it would go away because they knew they would be accused of racism. It's like this everywhere in the UK : people lose their jobs for even the smallest remark saying anything negative about anyone in a minority. Those people, on the other hand, can say virtually whatever they like and nobody bats an eyelid.

Yes the police have blame in this - but so do those people who are eager to shout 'racist' at every opportunity.

On the news last night, it was only near the end of the story we actually got any details of who actually was doing what and on what scale. THAT story should carry at least as much weight as what the police did (or didn't do).

Can people even imagine the scale of this problem in the UK ?. Is the country ready to expose the injustice to woman through Sharia law ?. Not a chance.

Politicians are squirming in their seats now trying to work out what to do about ISIS militants coming back to the UK. They will be damned now if they lock them up without hard evidence or damned later if they don't and people get killed.

Shaun Wright has failed the people miserably and refuses to accept it. Hope the victims bring a civil suit against him and take him for every penny.

I find it quite disturbing that either a policeman can be the council Cabinet official responsible for children, or that a council member can become the police commissioner, Does not look good.does it?

Of course The South Yorkshire Chief Constable should resign. The buck stops or at least comes to rest with him. Been keeping his head down has he not?

He is David Crompton. Previously From 2004 to 2012 he served as both Assistant Chief Constable and Deputy Chief Constable in West Yorkshire. Small world? Na?

He is responsible for Integrity and Transformation within the force.Ha ha

He's resigned from the Labour Party before they expelled him. Conservatives, Liberals and fellow Labour politicians are all urging him to resign.

Is he arrogant or contemptuous or both? Maybe the GBP 85k p.a. salary influences his pathetic attempts to cling on when all credibility gone.

It's disgraceful that a gang of Pakis can get away with this for so long. The police, social services, local government and parents should all be facing questions.

Time Britain woke up to the PC racial bias in favor of certain ethnic groups created and developed by the loony left.

Well said EnglishJohn and Baerboxer.English children being abused and attacked by these Islamic thugs and the authorities are too scared to do anything about it.This brainwashed foreign mob that has been forced onto the British people by a bunch of politicaly correct politicians should be deported. But thre is hope.If you feel strongly about this UK tragedy you should join Britain First. Check out their website at www.britainfirst.org and learn how they are sticking up for the British people.

I've read the article twice so now just have to ask: Not being from England, Is Rotherham a separate race than the rest of England?

On topic: If a single professor can discover so much, why can't the entire police force and prosecuting force find any evidence to make arrests and convictions?

Also, if the guy's been on the job for 9 years and the report goes back 8 years previously, should there not be others held accountable for creating the significant amount of cover-ups that had apparently been going on for 2 decades?

This whole thing smacks of historical complacentsy rather than somethign new. Another of the "Empire's" dirty little secrets coming out in the wash?
