Seven Days and still Jetlagged.

Featured Replies

That's now one full week since I flew back from the UK, I am still waking up about 1 or 2 am most mornings and can't get back to sleep, I have ended up sometimes falling asleep during the day. I have never taken sleeping pills before, is it time to start?

I have made several trips to the UK and back to Thailand, and have never been jetlagged like this. I usually average about seven hours sleep a night, and have always been a good sleeper.

Get active during the day more than normal, couple of days of extra activity will get you back to normal.

Good idea, it's time I started my exercise park routine again. Thanks.

I always made fun about these jetlagged people....Last two times Europe I got it as well.

I guess the best is just go sleeping and wake up the right time. Without sleeping on the day. And being overly tired will force you into the new sleep pattern.

Worked from when I was born till 2013.......2014 it didn't work anymore.

I find it best to just tough it out.

Plenty of exposure to sunlight during the day and melatonin at night (inc. extra dose if you wake up in the middle) can help.

7 days not unusual. I came back from the US on the 20th and am still not 100% over mine though improving day by day.

Thanks Sheryl.

Boeing did a study years ago and found that it takes one day to recover for each difference of one time zone. That would mean coming from the East Coast of the US to Thailand would take 12 days to recover, which is my usual experience.

I'm at 10 days now so will let you know!

Actually in the past I have adjusted much more quickly but I had worked out a certain routine that involved taking a late night flight out of NY after staying up as late as I could the night before and sleeping as late as I could that day, and then having a 10 hour layover in Soeul in which I got some sleep in the Transit Hotel, then arriving in Bkk at night. It worked really well and I was correctly cycled within a few days of arrival.. Unfortunately for various reasons this time I had to take a daytime departure and fly straight through. Never again, I hope.

I frequently do air courier work flying all over the world...jet lag is a constant problem. The importance of hydration can not be over emphasized. I'm not talking about just being thirsty, I'm talking about deeper hydration that effects body organs and blood flow...all of which can make you feel low and tired.

Airlines have to keep humidity in long haul aircraft at below 15% humidity. You are eating very salty prepared meals and you probably expended a whole lot more moisture during the whole airport experience on both ends than you think you did.

Now that they do not allow a passenger to bring their own water supply onboard, the problem is worse...nobody wants to be constantly bugging the FA's for water. Many people, especially women actually avoid drinking water on a flight because if they are in an inside seat, they don't want to be going to the bathroom frequently.

When I am on a longhaul flight, I try to get the FA's to give me a big bottle...some will, some won't but in that case, I don't mind bugging them...I want to be sipping water often and always have a double water with meals.

Continue to sip water constantly after you arrive at your destination...you will be surprised just how effective it is.

What is jet lag ?? 7 days ?? I've done round trips in 4 days !!

Get on an aircraft, get off and carry on as normal.....??

Melatonin supplements usually sort me out within a day or two.
