New ministers 'should give up other posts'
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Some people appointed to the Prayuth Cabinet, despite already having full-time jobs, have been urged to consider giving up some of their other positions to ensure they carry out their duty efficiently.

Ruangkrai Leekijwattana, a legal official for the Pheu Thai Party said he suspected members of the Prayuth Cabinet, including PM Prayuth Chan-ocha, have multiple roles and responsibilities that may overlap or conflict with one another.

He said although the interim charter allowed Prayuth to continue as National Council for Peace and Order chief even though he has assumed the premier's post, the general should uphold the principle of separation of power.

Mahidol University Research Centre for Peace director Gothom Arya said some ministers may have their hands full, such as Health Minister Dr Rajata Rajatanavin, because he also works full time as Mahidol University rector.

The Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT) had also assigned the Mahidol University rector to conduct research on how to reform the country's education system.

Gothom said he was not worried that the reform work of the university would be adversely affected because Rajata only assigned researchers to carry out the research, but he was concerned about the university's work since the rector post is a full-time job.

PM's Office permanent secretary ML Panadda Diskul said he could and was willing to handle two jobs at the same time.

However, he has resigned as vice chairman of MCOT after being royally endorsed as a Prime Minister's Office Minister.

One is led to wonder whether the august personage, Ruangkrai Leekijwattana a legal official for the Pheu Thai Party ever took the time or effort to view the interests his fellow P.T.P. party members along with their multiple roles and responsibilities that may well have overlapped or conflicted with one another?

New Thai ministers 'should give up other posts'

Reaction from the new Transport Minister: My other job is making deliveries for Pizza 1112, and there is no conflict at all. In fact, that job complements my cabinet post, as I can inspect the streets of Bangkok at the same time!

I tried to post a foot in the mouth smiley but the system wouldn't let me.

they don't even do in a "democratic" country (i refer to thailand, before the coup, not to our western countries), so why would they do it in a military based junta ?

people in the west, little people, working for companies, it will be the company that will forbid you to do any other activity and the tax governement will bleed you if you do anyway, almost working for peanuts as the two incomes are put together and you end up paying even more taxes ...

but for politicians, CEO's and other big shots, no problem to be on the board of directors of so many company's , cashing in, as if they did not were already seriously overpaid for their attendance ...
