BANGKOK: -- Sigve Brekke, former CEO of Total Access Communication (Dtac), will assume the old title on Jon Eddy Abdullah's resignation.

"Dtac is in a strong position to capture market share and innovate to meet the growing demand for data services in Thailand. The company is firmly anchored to the strategy of delivering internet for all in Thailand and I look forward to contributing in my capacity as interim CEO," said Brekke.

Abdullah has resigned from his position as CEO of Dtac and Chairman Boonchai Bencharongkul has started the process of appointing a new CEO, according to a Dtac statement.

"Brekke has been asked to serve as the interim CEO of Dtac until a new CEO has been identified. He has significant experience with Dtac, currently sitting on the board of directors as vice chairman and previously heading up the company as CEO from 2005 to 2008," said Boonchai.

Brekke continues in his role as the executive vice president and head of Telenor Group's Asia operations, which holds a majority stake in the Thai telecom company.

Boonchai had good words for Abdullah, saying that he has developed and navigated Dtac through a period of significant change, both in the market and inside the company since his appointment in March 2011.

"In 2011, Thailand was still at an early stage in the adoption of internet-based services. Today, the country is at the forefront of digital services usage in Asia. Succeeding in this environment requires a tremendous ability to constantly innovate and transform to meet customer expectations. When Jon Eddy Abdullah now steps down, I would like to thank him for his dedication to Dtac, its customers, partners and employees," said Boonchai.

Abdullah is also pleased with the track record.

"Working alongside the employees and to manage Dtac through this exciting period in the telecom industry has been an honour. We have built a company that is ready to both deliver and enable innovation that is key to win the hearts and minds of Thai consumers. I want to thank the Dtac team for the years together and wish them the best for the future," he said.
