Thai names

It is quite well known that Thai family names were not much used historically in Thailand .

One of the children now says she has a problem because she does not have a one syllable nick name! She is called Larissa Everyone says La is a quite common Thai nick name..short for Ladawan or whatever. Not acceptable..what about Sa?..equally common..no! She has Thai names, but they are a bit long!!

Apparently you cannot 'appropriate' a Thai surname unless you are a blood relative +++if you want to create a new surname it cannot be more than 10 letters long!! Well there are rules and rules...what shall we do? And did you know one of the most common names for a boy in Thailand is Benz!!!!! In your dreams??

OP, I want to help, but I'm a bit confused what you are asking for.

Do you want a Nickname for your Daughter?

My boys have a formal Christian names of J***** and B****** but ...

... but their Thai nicknames are Big and Boss.

My understanding is that the 'Nickname' is used so that the ghosts will be confused and not come and steal the child.

Yes, I know ... giggle.gif ... but if someone believes it, it's true to them.

My gf's nickname is Hnoo ... which means Rat. My gf's gf is named Miss Poo ... means crab in Thai.

I have a Stockbroker whose is names Supaluk ... w00t.gif

So, are you after a nickname for your daughter?

.
