A British man embroiled in legal issues has been arrested in Pattaya, Thailand, after attempting to evade police. The incident occurred when the 28-year-old, who was wanted for trespassing and overstaying his visa, tried to flee while under the influence of cannabis.

A British man on the run from Thai police had his escape plan go up in smoke—literally. On Thursday, October 3, Chon Buri Immigration officers apprehended a 28 year old British national who was wanted for trespassing and overstaying his visa in Thailand. But in a bizarre twist, the arrest only came after he tried to flee while high on cannabis.

 

According to police, Davis Songhuek Pittrak was hiding out in Pattaya after a warrant was issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court for nighttime trespassing, property damage, and overstaying his visa by 120 days.

A tip-off placed him strolling down Pattaya Second Road, but when immigration officers moved in to arrest him, Davis made a run for it—though not for long. His intoxicated state worked against him, as officers quickly caught up.

Despite his erratic behaviour, the British man denied all charges, insisting he hadn’t trespassed and wasn’t overstaying. However, further checks confirmed the arrest warrant and his visa violation.

Following his arrest, Davis was taken to Nong Prue Police Station for legal proceedings, where he will face deportation, reported Pattaya News.

The title says 'Cannabis fuelled' - am I alone in seeing zero connection between the arrest of someone for illegally entering buildings / overstaying his visa and the fact he was smoking weed just before he was apprehended?

If he'd been having a beer, would the attempted escape have been booze fuelled? What about if he were having a coffee?

What a strange reporting angle - it makes no sense to me at all!

Doubt that if he's wanted by immigration for overstay. Sure, he might have come in on a UK passport, but having Thai nationality would probably reduce the overstay penalty. But maybe not. Maybe. I guess. Could be....

Never mind, show them your British passport where it says, "His Britannic Majesty's secretary of state requests and requires in the name of His Majesty all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance........"., you'll be back home in no time.

It would really be appreciate if the news guys and gals here would say 'British Passport Holder; rather than a British man which is obviously not his full ethnicity.

If only they could convince the well-heeled quality tourists of the world to come to Pattaya and sample the quality entertainment and cuisine on offer then things like this would naturally go away.

So what? It's like the infamous, and much derided/lampooned, "Yes, but where are you really from" for Asian Americans. Or, for that matter, 90% of Americans with bizarre names like Schnauzer, Molotov, Bangus, Tilapia, Inkfish etc etc. Does anyone know whence these people came? Moravia? Lithuania? Eastern Madhouse?

It depends I think, on which passport he came to Thailand on, and whether he had or needed a visa.

 

A British passport he would probably have needed a visa of some sort. If he used a Thai passport and a Thai ID card he shouldn't have needed a visa.

He should have used more powerful cannabis for the escape.

How about a good old British name like David Bowie's son, Zowie Bowie, or people named after the entire football club player's names.

If he has Thai nationality, he can not be in overstay in Thailand.
