Actually I agree, Holland Tulip Bakery on Soi Siam Country Club have imo the best croissants. Only this comes close to the ones I always had in France and they are only 20 baht I believe.

If you come early can buy a few, however if you come too late they are sold out already.

I vote for la baguette too. I think some places use less butter and add margarine, or god forbid, palm oil based fats. The result is something that looks like a croissant but tastes like pastry soaked in grease.

I bought some yesterday and they were indeed really good... and only a 15 minute ride on my push bike. There's also a Thai bakery across the street and I will sample theirs as well.

If you know Khoa Noi then, the French Place on there sells croissants which are lovely. It is to be found on the right by the Farang Book Shop - not the Thai bakery though that is close to it, but 20 meters down the hill towards Sukhumvit. They are very good. Pain Au Chocolat as well.

Agreed, used to be good, but you had to get there early-ish. Not sure what they are like these days as I boycotted the place a few months back. (I do not patronise places where I'm made to feel unwelcome - perhaps if I spoke French, monsieur?????)

AFAIK the Holland Tulip Bakery gets them from the Thai bakery across the street but as always I could be wrong.

However Fabrice in Soi Pornprapa Nimit bakes his own stuff including Pizza's that are not bad at all.

Also other delights on the premises.

Holland Tulip is open at 7 AM with fresh croissants and other breads whereas the Thai bakery across the street opens at 10 AM.

Agree about the pizza at Fabrice and their sticky buns and warm muffins are sometimes quite good.

All others including la baguette are poor comparison.

Yes they are good. You will be sitting in an actual bakery smelling the fresh baked goods while eating fresh Croissants. The owner (presumably) was walking around speaking french on the phone so yes, it all checks out.

Sandwiches were 85baht, American breakfast was 150baht and includes a couple eggs, hash browns, toast, bacon, and ham I believe. Never had it but looked good when they brought it out for someone else. Omelets are 85baht as well. Also Espresso type coffee's. They open at 8am.

It's about a 5minute walk from the corner of Klang/3rd road headed north on 3rd road towards N Pattaya rd. Maybe 10-15minute walk from Big C Extra.

I dropped by early this morning and bought a couple, took them home and after a 30-second warming on top of the toaster, devoured both of 'em!

So, for darkside, it is Tulip bakery at 20 baht each.

And on the seaside, it is La Boulange at 21 baht each.

Market research is now closed.

Btw, friendship does not just have La Boulange bakery products. They have stuff from a place called Mikes Bakery and a few other places. It's usually labelled. So one could probably go there, write down the names on the labels, and check those places out.

I took the recommendation and tried Boulange Bakery. I was hoping the croissants were better than the Boulange croissants you see around town at the markets.

I sensed there was a problem when the coffee was served with powder milk. Yuk.

Powder milk is my pet hate. It's usually a non dairy chemical cocktail comprising palm oil, whitener and other yukky stuff. Unfortunately, commonly used here. I always return the satchets and request for milk... And most cafes oblige. However, i feel it casts doubts in my mind: do they then use margarine instead of real butter if they are willing to use non dairy whitener instead of milk?

It's a bakery first and foremost. Not a coffee shop. My guess is the walk in's are a very small part of their business. They probably do a lot more by supplying the grocery stores. Not sure how you are able to find a reason to complain about their croissants vs....ah their croissants bought somewhere else. However you have managed to do that. Congratulations.
