Thanks to the Thai Army!

Featured Replies

Yesterday, I rode my little scooter into Khorat for a little shopping. A little less than an hour from home.

On my way home, I decided to look for a short cut, then got caught in a huge downpour.

The rain was so heavy, I could not see to drive, so I found shelter and waited.

On my way again, I realized that I had no idea where I was!

This is good, I enjoy getting lost and seeing new areas!

Soon, I found myself in the middle of a huge military base.

Tanks, canons, armored vehicles and a lot of Thai guys with machine guns!

I decided to ask for directions.

As I approached, The soldiers looked pretty apprehensive, ( as they should ).

Never being a big pro military guy myself, I was also a little nervous!

But, after a pretty humorous exchange in my limited Thai, explaining that I am a crazy American who likes to get lost, and had done a good job of it....we were all laughing and joking.

These guys could have not been nicer or more helpful.

I thought it would be good to post this thank you here...

So...Thanks for the help Thai soldiers!

It took me about 3 hours to get home...but I made it!

Would have been awesome if they took you home in a tank!

Anyway, nice story by the crazy American!

So there was no fence?

So there was no fence?

No, no fence that I noticed, just a nicely paved two lane road.

Once well inside the base, there were fences around the tanks and canons and the like...a huge fenced area marked " Ordnance".

There was a checkpoint where I left the base, but none that I noticed where I entered it.

You wrote a whole post to tell us how good the Army is because they gave you some directions.

I'm a little lost here.

Anybody you would have asked would have given you directions.

Army people come from the same country like the others and not from a different planet.

Why shouldn't they help you with directions?

Anyway......must be me the old fart being grumpy again.

.

Interesting.

The first group of soldiers may have actually been a checkpoint, but was well inside what I believe was the boundary of the base.

And to those who would like to criticize my post for thanking the Thai Army....

I see s many negative posts about Thai people, culture and government here on TV, I thought it would not hurt to point out something positive for a change..

Please excuse me for going against the norm....
