I think they need to change the promo photo to Thai wife as this is more the rule. Original wife is the exception. And what if the farang wife, not always origimal, wants to retire in Thailand too, she will be subjected to the cruelest torments as I have been.Thai wife 45 treats retired farang husband 65 as the ATM machine. Just turn off pussy for a day she can get fridge, TV, smartphone etc.And that's how her brothers, first husband and parents want it.

The insurance is only for visitors, seems not for one year "resident" and tops out at age 70.

I am very happy if people think it is difficult to retire in Thailand. I personally do not find many old white men much of a plus to this country, especially if they do not take care of their woman and children.

I think it is very fair for a government to want to know the address of its foreign nationals/documented aliens.

I want Thailand to know the address of everyone here so the authorities can find them to arrest them if law breakers.

The usual retirement age does cut the nation off from valuable English speakers who could teach into their old age, and it would be easy to set up a method to license them. That is just too bad for Thailand. They will fix it someday.

I plan to stay here forever and sure hope I can. I know the cremation site and the "bones" niche for me. I am happy here.wai.gif

Take away the "poor quality" tourists (TAT) and you are left with one of the worst tourist destinations in the world.

Take away Ex-army/Sex Grandpas/Alcholic grumpy old B*******s/

Then tell us how many

Time to wake up - modernise - protect/promote what's left - get a head (scrub the last remark?)

Instead of buying her that smartphone or fridge tell her to hell with her pussy cuz you can get younger pussy for the day a lot cheaper

I do understand why Thailand is one of the most welcome countries for retirees.

They only ask me to have 800K Baht in my account that I can't touch and present myself every 90 days to the immigration office.

What else could I ask for?

Mine is even easier. All they ask of me is proof of guaranteed 65,000 baht a month. I don't have to tie any money up. I can use it for other things such as holidays and extra luxuries.

I do have to make that idiotic 90 day report how ever.

You can use the money apart from two months before the first Retirement Visa or three months before following visas at these times you have to have at least 800,000Thai Baht in the account. You can use anything above that. With rates of around 2.5% on Saving Accounts and a firm Baht it is good anyway. Look at the rules for other countries Australia for example, last time I did this you had to have 750,000AUD AND invest another 750,000AUD. So to retire you need 1.5Million AUD. What a sad joke, how many Australians have 1.5m?

Me but I was just as happy as when I had the arse out of my pants but good health

utter BULL ....I dont care what any thai lovers on here say ..I've been here a long time and its NOT foreigner friendly

I totally agree. Don't mention Farlang tax or racism. Only time Thai's are happy is when they are milking money out of us.

Have you tried living outside the bar scene and the tourist scene?wai.gif

I thought if you were married to a Thai it was 400K. Or has that changed?

So you're remain here to moan & get milked? Nice purpose in life haha.

I think older retirees find it a nice place to be cared for, get loaded and laid cheaply and easily, and relax & slow down.

Only 33 & enjoying the same thing, in 30 years will probably still enjoy those same things in Thailand & in life I hope! ...hopefully enjoying it more than some bitter geezers on forums I should think.....

Bitter, whining, right wing Fox News lemming, geezers. Ye gods, you wonder how some of these guys get through each day without doing themselves in. (see above)

Nothing has changed, but instead of running to BKK to accumulate the documents they need, plus writing a whole book, according to their requirements, I opted out for the retirement, extension visa.

When are you coming to Thailand?

....and don't forget to mention, costas2008, the fact that you have to renew your visa every year, you have no right to buy a house or land, you may not work and finally, it isn't the cheap place to live that it was 20 or even 10 years ago, Yes, it's a good place to retire to - or I wouldn't still be here - but don't let anyone tell you that it's a farang friendly country and that their immigration regulations encourage us to stay.

Oh come on lets be fair here, what country in the world has not become more costly to live in the last 20 years???

Perhaps the north or south pole???

Lets all be a bit realistic. Yes not being able to own your home outright needs to be addressed. But so far as the Thais allowing us to feel as though we are part of the country - give yourself an uppercut.

Well I agree with most of what you said.

But you are wrong you can own your own home you just can not own the property it is on. You can how every get a 30 year lease on it. Consider do you want to make that kind of a commitment.

Also not all retirees want the same thing. I am sure I am not alone in enjoying A maintaince free living quarters that I can move away from any time I want. As for owning and selling and making a profit. Well look at the number of homes sitting empty because Thai's favor new homes.

Some do make money at it but they are very few and I doubt they do it very often.

They don't mention viagra and relatively cheap pooosssy, but u don't expect Thai officialdom to be in touch with reality.

In fact, pooossy must be a huge contributor to Thailand's economy.

It has been said that if Thailand didn't have poooosssy it wouldn't have an international airport

Thainess prevails

Yes it is touted on this board that the availability of cheap prostitutes is a the main factor why many are here. Many aren't, but we aren't given a voice on this forum and are denounced as 'puritans' , bent on derpriving old men and young knuckle draggers, shagging up country farm girls, a 'good time' laugh.png

If I had 50 baht for every time I heard you're in 'Thailand eh?' wink wink nod bloody nod coffee1.gif

So you are one of the few expats not sharing a bed with a Thai?

Yeh, OK.

No one voted Thailand as a great place to retire. This was written by a travel blogger to promote her website and book. One person thinks Thailand is a great place to retire.

Excactly , Huffington post copied the content from a blogger.

They are famous to do so, please do think this is a major survey or something.....

Nothing wrong with the article if you see it as views coming from one person.

Looking at the number of expats living/retiring here seems to contradict with the general sentiment in TV as to how unfriendly a place it is for retirees.

How do we all propose immigration ease the regulations and restrictions without letting the undesirables slip in?

Why wouldn't every country welcome retirees who are law-abiding citizens and can prove they have enough resources to not only NOT be a burden to that country's healthcare and social welfare system which wasn't supported by their taxes but to also contribute to the countries earnings?

So lets be honest, 99 % of the retiree are here because of the cheap thai girl/boy, otherwise they would be at home, with their friends and family

You are simple foolxs, did I forget something?

All these countries have one thing in common. The general population is predominantly poor. A bank manager here takes home that sort of income each month 65,000 baht so in retrospect they are in asking for a lot of money. All these countries are in general structurally, environmentally, educationally, inferior to the country a retiree is coming from. Tax payers have nothing to complain about, it is above their pay grade. It is obvious a country like Australia, the UK and the U.S would demand a person be of the same difference in stature than its average citizen to come and retire and access the benefits of its developed nation. Thus somewhere like Australia demands a person is worth around 1.5 million AUD to go there and retire with a visa. Now if you had an open check book and money was of no consequence would you choose to retire in Thailand, Ecuador, Malaysia, etc etc? Or would you choose somewhere like Las Vegas, Phoenix, Santa Fe, N.M., and Orlando, Fla.??? I know where i would be heading.

Is this a joke?

Every 90 days you report for a continuance, you must leave 800K in the bank, you can't own property, you have no rights, you have no legal system, corruption is rife, the [police are worse than the criminals, the courts laugh at you, you are despised, you are merely there, not to enjoy the Autumn of your years, but as a cash cow and potential scam victim.

Remember the vast majority of retirees cash flows one way....into Thailand.

Rubbish article.

Better just hang out in Dublin seeing as how Thailand is such an awful place to be.

TIT!

And of course the ease of access to attractive young women does not matter ...

cheesy.gif seriously everdyday you crack me up

I was talking about you, NongkhaiGrandPalaugh.png

I'm not married, <deleted>

Bear in mind he must also be in the 99%.
