Canceling true internet and cable on a specific day

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I am leaving thailand on the 26th of October and own my condo. I will be coming back here, maybe in 2 or 3 years.

I don't mind paying for the entire month of October of course, but I would like to have the internet and cable right up until I leave. I called true and was confused they were saying, I think, I need to return the boxes. Do I in fact need to return the box and router? If so, will they come pick it up? Is it reliable for them to come on the day before I leave?

Thanks for any info on how to deal with this. I obviously would like to have my internet when I return to thailand btw, just don't know how to best deal with this.

They will schedule a day during certain hours...usually about a week later to come pickup the box. Might as well pay for the whole month since they prorate a termination month very little. The box deposit refund will take around 30 to 45 days via check in the mail. Might want to attempt box turn-in at a True service center to speed up the process.

I went and talked to them. I still have no clue what is going on, but she said to bring in the box for the cable before i leave, and that a man would have to come to get the router, which is a problem. I wish I could just bring it in too, then cancel. Now I am probably going to be without internet, even though i will have paid the entire month for it, after he takes the router, on their schedule, not mine.

Maybe you can leave the router with a neighbor. When the True guy shows up to pickup the router, just have a note on your door to go to address XYZ to pickup the router. When they show up they do have official True paperwork/receipt to be signed and you get a copy.

As far as I know there is no deposit refund for the router which is really just on loan to you. But there is a Bt2,000 per TrueVisions settop box refund due you which takes 30 to 45 days to get "if" things go smoothly (there boxes are just on loam to you also and that Bt2,000 deposit you made earlier gives motivation to turn them in).

To ensure your accounts are cancelled and you don't continue to rackup a monthly charge after you have left which could complicate things on your return, I would recommend all settop boxes/routers are tuned in before you leave and you have signed cancellation paperwork at a True Service Center--be sure to keep a copy.

Thanks. Do you understand the reason why I can't bring both the router and cable box in when I cancel. It makes this SO much harder the fact that I have to wait for this guy to come get it.

I suppose I don't need an answer on this, just wish their service was a little different.

Regarding not being able to bring in both the TV box and router box probably has something to do with True's organization and varying policies between their business units. TrueVisions (for your TV boxes) and TrueOnline (for your router) are separate business units which probably have different ways of closing down accounts and collecting the various boxes. And TrueMobile (for cell service) is another separate business unit.

Thank you. When you said it that made me much less mad than when they told me, haha. But I guess that is just me. Thanks again.

This is just spiraling downhill. It seems I simply can't cancel and get the boxes returned on the 22nd like that. The router is not a problem, but the cable box is. They are saying something about only being able to pick it up on the 30th. Whatever, I'm just over it. Why do little things like this have to be so complicated here, it is very frustrating.

Just disconnect the cables from the router and the cable tv box and take them down to your nearest Truevisions office. Make sure you get a receipt for them and verify if their service for the internet and cable has been disconnected before you go. That's all I did with no problem.

I'm being told I can't do that, which is ludicrous I know. I might just do it and see what happens. There is the issue of the deposit though. And I also worry about them somehow charging me when I'm gone. This has been like a week long process dealing with this, they all say something different. I don't know maybe it's just me but I wish these companies would get a clue. Aren't people canceling everyday? Shouldn't they have this down pat??

We've turned boxes twice....the account is in the Thai wife's name...we live in Bangkok and have always lived at the same address.

Below is a cut and paste of my 3 Nov 13 ThaiVisa post summarizing how long it took to get a refund in those two separate turn in about a year apart. And the refund that took around 6 months required numerous follow-on visits to True Customers Service Center and calls to the Customer Support number...what a goat rope that deposit refund was and we followed the True rules. The second time took 100 days and only required a couple of follow-up telecons...ditto again...we followed the True rules. But with that being said there are numerous posts where people did get their refund check within 30 to 45 days as True tells you when starting the box turn-in process.

Good luck in your box turn-in and deposit refund. You can sure attempt a box turn-in at a service center but the two times we did the box turn-in and wanted to turn them in at the customer service center they would not accept them (had to schedule a box pickup around 10 days down the road)...but maybe things have changed.

Told us (the Thai wife and I) it would take around 45 days...and once the pink receipt thingie shows up that's confirmation True is in the final stages of processing your refund and you should get a check in approx. 2 more weeks. First time we turned in a True box it took around 6 months to get the refund after numerous in-person follow ups to a True Service Center....the next box turn-in took exactly 100 days from box pickup by True to refund check received with one or two follow-ups. The account was in my Thai wife's name with Thai ID card so it wasn't a farang thing...True just slow in refunding in some cases. Now, there are also quite a few posts where folks did get their refund check in around 45 days. We live in Bangkok.
