the 49 thb 6 inch ham is back at participating Subway's....so far only verified on Nimman. Oh, and it's 59 thb, good through the end of May....perhaps then it will be 49 again. They claim it is regularly 89 thb.

That Pumpkin paste is $1.69 or about 55 baht today on a US Supermarket online portal.

Holiday time that kind of thing gets flogged for 0.99 cents.

If I wanted to bake a pie I would buy it, but just sayin'.

I noticed the pumpkin also, I never made pies but used to make a quick pumkin soup with that product as it is 100% pumpkin... saute some meat, cumin, chili, onion and garlic add can contents and water, soup's on. top with avocado, cilantro and a squeeze of lime.. Amazing the import mark-up on such a cheap product. Luckily can buy a real "fuktong" in the fresh market for cheap and ...boneless chicken breast 80 baht a kilo at gad luang so.... soups on.

Just stopped by at Big C Extra (or is it plus). Anyway it's the Big C that used to be Carrefours. It's got some great French raw milk cheeses at a price that's similar to what you'd pay in the USA. I bought some raw milk Morbier that cost 245 baht for 250 grams. According to my inner Rainman that comes to a cost of 980 baht per kilo. The cheese is excellent. They also have some rarer raw milk cheeses like St. Marcellin.

Rimping Mee-Chok-Plaza yesterday had Ritter-chocolate at Buy-One-Get-A-Half-Sized-One-Free, giving 150gms for B84.

Actually, as far as weight goes, the deal is slightly better than that. The smaller bar weighs 65 grams. Also, the smaller bar is going to be either a dark chocolate (50%) or a milk chocolate bar. The bars are attached so you've got to choose from what's there. No mix and match.

At Big C Extra they are saling Casino (house brand) 85 percent chocoate 100 gram chocolate bars for 59 baht. For bars with the same cocoa content from Tanzania the price is 79 baht. They do use real cocoa butter in the bars but I haven't tried them so I can't comment on the flavor.

I tried the Casino chocolate a couple of months ago and it was pretty good. The white chocolate wasn't too bad either.

Just going off topic to ask a question.

I was in Tops KSK this morning looking at the Green apples along that shelf where the veg is.

I noticed a smallish sign on the glass there, saying something like (it may not be exact wording)

Our Granny Smith's and Gala apples do not come from (I think the name was) Biden Bros

They are export quality and fit for human consumption

Anyone shed some light on this? blink.png

Listeria outbreak in US late January (sourced to Bidart Brothers) Link here.

Nasty bug and very dangerous, it can kill. There was an outbreak in Aus just before Christmas sourced to cheese made from raw milk in a touchy feely cafe if I recall correctly.

Chiangmaijoe, will be on shortly telling you that you are a cheap Charlie

for trying to save a few Bht.,myself i try and make as many savings as

possible, not because i have to ,its just common sense.

Exactly. thumbsup.gif

Anyone who bashes another for not trying to save a few baht here and there falls into one or more of the following categories:

A) They are simply an idiot

B) They have more money than they know what to do with

C) They scrape by themselves and have no idea why they can never get ahead (usually goes hand in hand with A)

D) They are too drunk to notice

If you've never tallied up your total expenses, to the baht, every month, you should. It's a real eye opener and will show you exactly where your money is going as well as where you need to cut back. For myself, I was spending an insane amount of money on western food, almost triple what I was spending back in the USA! That is under control now, but before I tracked it all, I didn't really know how much I was wasting. There are free phone and computer apps to help you track if you are interested in doing so.

I've noticed the opposite case a lot more where someone reproaches posters for spending x amount of dollars on something when a version of it can be had for x/2. Particularly in the case of food and drink where, say, a hamburger may be much cheaper at some dive than, say, at the Duke's, but with no regard to the question of quality. For some people, pretty much all they taste when eating or drinking is the flavor of less baht spent.

Good suggestion, I am interested in doing so: What free apps exactly?

Cheers

I suppose people are aware that the last 3 days 7/11 have had a 50% reduction on ice cream, but it ends today.

Stocked up with loads of Cornetto's at 10 baht each, a bargain.......still time if you're out and about.

Lurpack butter is buy one get one free at Central Food Hall, presumably Tops, until 21st - of course you have to have a member;s card to get the bargains at Tops/Central. Aussie feta cheese is 157 down from 175 too, good tasting,

Sometimes at the Sat am farang farm French market there is a guy who sells the real cheese still in a wheel. Loafs of fresh French breads, pastries, quiche, and pizza. There are other homemade items also, like humus and free coffee. Great people. Starts at 8 get there early.

I went to the Saturday market Nana Jungle (google: nana jungle chiang mai, first hits will also lead you to google maps) but I am not sure if this is the market discussed above.

The bread they are selling at Nana Jungle you can also find in their regular bakery shops without the big waiting line at Nana Jungle. I did not return to Nana Jungle as the bread delivery did not arrive twice until 8.15 and the queue got too long so that you can no more get your preferred products. I only go now to their shops to buy the bread.

But it's a nice place to have a chat with some folks.

'farang farm french market' Where????

Suan Pailom (Farang Farm) – Saturday Morning Market

It only happens once a week and you have to be there at a time when you’d much rather be in bed, but the Saturday morning market at the Farang Farm is not to be missed if you’re a fan of farmer’s markets, delicious pastries or revitalizing herbal tonics. A small gated community about 15 minutes outside of Chiang Mai’s old town, the Farang Farm (or Suon Pailom as is it’s more politically correct nomenclature) is home to a number of expats from around the world who have brought their craft to Thailand to share with others. The french baker’s Pain au Chocolat will end any gluten-free diet, not to mention his delicious assortment of gourmet loaves. The German bratwursts are a juicy treat at 8AM on a Saturday, and the herbal beverages from Lanna Herbs will cure you of any ailment you never knew you had. It’s a fun gathering of friends and strangers, and there’s sure to be something for everyone (as long as you get there before 9 when things begin selling out).

Thanks for the heads up - how have I been living here for so many years and not heard about this?

I,ve been doing that since I came to Thailand. Designed my own template on M Word for each months income and expenditure, thai and british banking ,so each month I can record a 'profit or loss"
