Drunken man kills family of 3 in northwestern Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian police have arrested a drunken man on Sunday morning just an hour after he brutally hacked a family of three members to death, a local police chief said.

The accident occurred early Sunday in a remote village in Chey Sen district in Preah Vihear province, northwestern Cambodia, said Nguon Neam, police chief of Chey Sen district. "A family of three members including parents and their son were hacked to death while they were sleeping in their thatched cottage, "he told Xinhua over telephone. "A 25-year-old drunken man was arrested just an hour after he killed the victims and an axe was seized as evidence."

He said the suspect did not escape the scene after killing the family and fought back with police who tried to arrest him. "I have never seen such brutal act happened in my district before,"he said, adding that the perpetrator could face life in prison if convicted.

Nguon Neam said the suspect and the victims were neighbors.
