New TEFL teaching requirements?

Featured Replies

New requiremtnts for TEFL Thailand. Run around a tree three times yelling your name then jump over the nearest couch.

Now that is really going to cause problems. You mean the TEFL grads will have to know math and physical education too? What a way to cut down the number of English teachers.

There are different levels of international schools with different salaries.

I have heard some international schools have mostly Thai students with dual passports.

Schools are going to hire the best qualified person they can for the salary offered.

A degree from a low standard school may meet the requirements for a teaching license "able" to get a job at an international school but will anybody hire them.

In Californian all teachers must pass an English test and a math test (about 8th grade math) to teach even primary school. Many teachers struggled to get past basic arithmetic.

I am sure there are some excellent schools in the Philippines (and other countries) and also some degree mills.

Good schools know which schools produce quality teachers.

I know several people born and raised in America with strong accents. They live in communities where everyone speaks Chinese and only used English when they were in school. At work their clients speak Chinese.

Being born and raised in America does not necessarily mean native speaker anymore.
