I already sent a job application to Technology School. I fear they will not answer or give any advice or information...

Will they accept TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language, 3-months-teachers´training at a private language school)-certificates ?

Will I get a teaching licence (weaver) and a work permit ?

I don´t hold Bachelor or Master degree.

I absolutely would like to know for sure whether there is a long term perspective or not ...

Thank you for your reply

You might find a job with an "agency" who in fact lies to the schools about your qualifications. As far as a direct employment by a school who ever knows. As for a "Vo Tech" school, the TCT regulations aren't applicable and despite what you read on here, Immigration and Labor Departments don't check for degrees so good luck!

That is a very general comment about Immigration and Labour.

I know of at least 3 that do check., and I have only ever used 4.

Why don't you go there in person? There's no long term perspective. That's only possible when you're doing a great job.

The only thing that's for sure is that we all have to die one day.

They might not answer your query/application, as often Thai schools receive a large number of applications for advertised positions, and so only reply to the best candidates (Which hopefully you will be), and if you e-mail them without them having advertised a position, then they might feel that sending you a reply in English is very difficult, and it'd be easier to simply not reply lol.

Being able to enjoy working in Thailand, requires teachers to "manage their expectations", and in general to not expect a lot from Thai schools, otherwise the teachers will be constantly disappointed.

You won't get a teaching licence waiver without a bachelor degree, however as it's a vocational college, not a government school, you hopefully won't need one (But this was a subject of debate in a previous thread, so I don't know this for sure).

Long term.... if you get the job + don't need a teacher's licence for the position, then the position could definitely be a long term job. Provided that the school + director likes you & it remains financially viable for the school to hire a Farang teacher long term. However the directors usually change every 5 years, and sometimes new directors have different priorities to the old ones (e.g. They might decide they want a NES instead of a German teacher, or a Filipino teacher so that the school can save money). So with this in mind, there's never really any true certainty with employment in Thailand, as we are only able to get annual contracts which need to be renewed each year.

However, if you get on well with the staff, connect well with the students, don't complain too much and are a good teacher (Funnily enough, the last one is probably the least important lol), then the school should be happy to keep you on long term.

Dont believe anyone that says you dont need a degree or they dont check at the Labour Office or Immigaration you do and they do check. They check also for your waiver from the Teachers Council who will not give you a waiver without a degree.

Most agencies are rubbish and they too will be unable to assist you without a waiver, you will find your self traipsing out of the country every 3 -6 months getting a tourist visa and working illigally. I know all this because it happened to me and a number of my colleagues.

However, I was fortunate to find a school that got me both a permit and a visa by employing me in a role which did not involve the Teachers Council, did not require a degree and was in line with my previous education and work experience. I have several diplomas and a TEFL.

There are some types of schools that do not come under the Teachers Council but I am not sure what they are.

Hope you manage to work something out.

It is getting easier for people with no experience and valid degrees to get jobs teaching since many good experienced teachers can't get work permits.

Except international schools you have a chance.

The teacher's council freely gives people with legitimate degrees and absolutely no experience waivers to get work permits.

It is easy to get work permit to stay in Thailand 2 years if you are willing to be a teacher.

After you gain experience and knowledge about teaching then the requirements are raised to continue teaching.

Don't be scared because of the qualifications asked for in the advertisement. Schools ask for a lot but take what they can get. Many experienced teachers have left Thailand because they didn't want to spend a lot of money and time to return to school.

A very good market now for people with any degree and no experience to get work permits as a teacher.

If you plan to stay in Thailand more than 4 years then you will need to go back to school to get degree in education.
