Hi! I recently got married to my husband who already has a work permit here in Bkk. I am from an Asean country and I'm here as a tourist. In order that I can stay on in Bkk as his dependent, I was told that I would have to go out of the country and apply for a non-O visa at any Thai embassy abroad. Only after I have the non-O visa can I then come back and apply as his dependent.

My question is, since I'm already here in Bkk, isn't there a way to apply for a non-O visa here??? Thank you in advance.

If you have a real tourist visa issued from a Royal Thai Consulate (and believe 3 weeks or more remaining on your permitted to stay stamp is also required) you may be able to convert to a non immigrant visa at Immigration and then extend your stay per the below process. If not you will have to exit Thailand and obtain a visa.

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED IN SUPPORT OF THE APPLICATION FOR VISA STATUS ALTERATION (NON-O) TO FULFILL THE DUTY OR RESPONSIBILITY AS AN IMMEDIATE MEMBER OF A FOREIGN FAMILY IN THAILAND OR TO BE EMPLOYED AS HOUSEHOLD HELP BY SAID FAMILY.

Application for Visa Status Alteration. (TM.86)

Copy to passport entries.

4 X 6 cm. Photograph.

Application fee of 2,000 baht.

Passport and work permit.

Registration papers of the company, with details of the company's objectives.

VAT registration.

List of the Board of Directors.

Documents proving that the applicant is the father or mother of child ; a marriage certificate or birth certificate, as the case may be.

Letter from a government office, embassy or consulate, certifying that the applicant is of the referred family, a guarantor-letter from The Department of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Remarks

The Applicant must sign every page of application.

The Company Authority must sign to certify all documents stamped with the company seal.

The visa applicant must arrange the documents in proper order and must prepare the originals as proof.

Call 02-2873101-10 ext.2237 for details.

lopburi3 is correct... at least 21 days needs to be remaining on your entry stamp.

If you would like a professional firm to help you. Our fee to do the change of the visa is 3,900 Baht

Thank you for the responses. I'm here without any real visa. I just have the default 30-day allowed stay for ASEAN citizens. I guess I really have to go abroad then. I'll know if I'll need professional assistance in getting a visa.
