Sorry for being a pessimist, but some feeling in my little toe tell me that they are going to blow this out of proportions and the village headman sons will sentenced to a life in prison.

When everything has calm down, they will be released on bail (like Sondhi) and they can continue their business on the island.

Or they will pay a poor family to let somebody serve the prison term instead of the village headman sons.

Sorry, but the sons of the village headman of KT are toooooooo high placed to serve any prison term.

I live long enough in Thailand to don't believe in fairytales.

Well, we can hope that the "new" Thailand might show improvements in this case, as we have seen many other changes doing the coup with PM/General Prayuth.

Yes we hope his intentions to clean thailand up are meant, but most people realise the RTP will be his achilles heel.

I must be missing something, and I hope I am.

But I just scanned various Thai and British news media, and it does not seem like anybody has yet been arrested for the murders.

In fact, the headlines of some Thai media seem to have been ratcheted down several times since mid-afternoon.

Now they simply say that two well-connected Kho Tao men came in for questioning and DNA tests, and both were released.

No arrests were made. They were simply questioned and let go.

There have been reports of police saying that they think they have enough evidence to make an arrest "soon" or "by the end of the week", but what does that mean?

I hope like everybody they catch the vermin who did this and they get what they deserve. And I believe like many it was a well-connected Kho Tao heavy who is responsible. Maybe the police are just methodically collecting enough evidence. But if they have enough to arrest somebody, then do it, and continue to solidify the case afterwards. The investigation doesn't end with an arrest.

Nothing is done until it is done---especially in Thailand. And until someone is arrested, charged, and convicted, nothing is over.

So what am I missing that everyone contributing to 26 pages of posts are not?

I noticed this too it seems that the headlines have been softened as the day has progressed. In the print edition the front page of bangkok post has only the eyes of suspects from Sean mcannas photo blurred and then later the online edition was made blurrier.

At first it was "arrests will be made", then "one arrested one at large", then "no one arrested one detained", then "one questioned and one released while another ran to Bangkok"...and so on

I woulnt celebrate too soon folks. public pressure created this result. until they have the accused in handcuffs recreating the crime in a thai style full confession im not holding my breath.

tomorrows headline could be "Mai pen rai!"

Relax everyone. They don't make arrests until all the DNA, etc are examined. In the meantime, the suspects are being held by the police. So many of you are really uneducated people on this board. The police are doing well. They want the case to be solid. In fact, they probably want confessions from the guys who did this. The confessions are normally easy to get in these cases in Thailand. You think torture forget that.

All they need to do is to explain DNA and other forensic evidence. Most people dont even know about DNA and what it can do and certainly many Thais isolated on a little island working at labor type of jobs probably dont scan the internet for the latest and greatest. They probably dont even know many cameras are around them.

Once the guilty realize they have no chance they confess for a promise of a less sentence maybe.

Uneducated? Maybe. Naive ? Certainly not. If you think police officers here donot torture a suspect, especially if it concerns a suspected killer of a tourist, you are the one who needs education.

You donot have any idea of what the Thai police is capable of and get away with sometimes.

will the UK have the samples from the body of Hannah?

And will they have done a post mortem on the bodies?

asked this before but no answer?

I hope the soon to be arrested guys are allowed to give fresh DNA samples to the UK police for comparison.

It's my suspicious side thinking. whistling.gif

I would suggest the DNA stuff is available on paper for those who must be involved, which includes the UK.

Not good enough. The UK police have the DNA from that poor girl and her friend. Now time for the British Embassy to demand their own examination of any person charged to corroborate independently that the DNA is a match in the interest of international transparency and they can shove their diplomacy up their diplomatic rectums.

I think unfortunately you are wrong about that. Why or how would UK police have any DNA? This is not their case! Like the FBI they were not in the end consulted or allowed involvement. The bodies of these poor kids were released to their families for burial not sent for further autopsy in UK. Furthermore the recovery of DNA was compromised by the atrocious mishandling of all evidence and that 'includes' the bodies and the quality of evidential DNA. It was reported officially after the Bangkok autopsies that they had been incorrectly stored and preserved so the DNA samples were degraded and resultantly poor.

Well, even though these terrible crimes shook the world, I personally will travel back to Ko Tao because I fell in love with this Paradise island. Will I be afraid for my safety? Probably to interested in what ocean life I see. I am being honest. I have followed what has happened from the beggining,, but that island is still my paradise.

+1

As I know Koh Tao, those lost will never be forgotten, but rather their spirits will join in the fun and their lives celebrated by their likeminded travelers.

I think I'm going to puke after reading that soppy bilge. I think their spirits would prefer to be alive , well and embarking on a life and future of promise. Instead of dead, violated and having slop like that trotted out as an excuse to carry on partying regardless. Idiot.

Of course, no one has said we want them dead. But we can't change it. We can only make sure they are not forgotten, and that their memory is kept alive.

And I don't think they would have wanted the entire world to stop partying because of this, and I didn't know them, but I have read a lot of tributes

to them from their friends.

As sad as it is - life goes on.

I've just seen the guy in question on Channel 3 news. He was interviewed earlier and gave his view of the whole situation. As cool as cucumber. I personally didn't understand a word of what he said (better half translated it) but it appears that he simply dismissed whatever Sean said. Game on.

Has anyone seen interview on Thai PBS just now? Looked very much like the "boss" suggesting the Sean was seen on the night of the murder covered in blood ?

Might of got the translation wrong but there could be another twist.

Apart from the fact there was no DNA linking him to the victims ??

The reason Sean ran away is that the now suspected murderer said he was the murderer because he said he was covered in blood the night of the murders.

So this Thai idiot is trying to say that the man Sean is the real murderer, and so he went on to facebook with pictures of two Thai men to deflect attention away from himself (so far as the police go) whilst hiding in a supermarket pretending to be in fear of his life and calling the police who he knows are DNA testing everyone. All in the hope that they forget to DNA test him or what?

The stories these liars one up with are just so transparent - the sad thing is they think people believe them. On the other hand maybe they do it because the expert police believe their fellow Thais who then get a chance to escape. It's funny how it is always the rich who manage to pull this off on behalf of their cretinous sons.

What disgusts me most is that the British Embassy are quite happy to let this charade go on day after day in the knowledge that their citizens are being raped, murdered, stabbed, victimized, defrauded of millions and illegally incarcerated and yet do absolutely nothing. It is shameful.

I really think you have gone a bit over the top with your accusations and expectations of the UK embassy.

Maybe it is time to drink up that bottle and head off to bed.

You might feel better by lunchtime.

If you check the comments you'll see one from Nicola McAnna:

"The police told us that Sean had never searched for anything like that in the 4 years of the computers history. It was once and clearly an accident as deleted right away. Regardless of the circumstances you are still guilty of downloading it. there was nothing else there & no searches."

I've not been drinking and I don't have any expectations of the British Embassy - any I did have were proven groundless a long time ago. One day maybe you will find yourself in a position where your opinion changes. Maybe I should change the word happy to indifferent - it changes nothing.

we all seem to think that the local police are in cahoots with the poo yai and his family and because they are on the payroll

how difficult would it be to substitute dna samples from another thai who is innocent in place of the brother and son?

Sean was probably so drunk in the bar he did not recall either falling over or being beaten up. So was the blood on his face before or after the Victims left the bar?

mmmm

setting Sean up for the murders , and then admitting him and nephew raped Hannah when she was already dead

is this where it is leading to?

There's plenty of Farangs in Thailand guilty of what people would class as Paedophillia when they bar fine girls as young as 17 throught the country, however, as I've said earlier, his past should have no bearing on the current murder inquiry, and IF this guy is genuine and holds the key to seeing the real perps arrested and charged with murder, based on his accounts, should the whole case just be thrown out because he has a record for child pornography?

I'm also willing to bet that a lot of the older TVF members would have had pictures of their kids splashing about in the bath without a sigle thought of it being wrong, but today it's enough to get you arrested and tagged and registered as a sex offender..

The focus should be on catching the ones who murdered this young couple, and seeing justice done.

No, it has no bearing on the case directly.. but he is maybe not going to be seen as a credible witness either with a conviction for whatever it is for.. Feel as a witness he may not do himself or anyone else any favours.. the word was always out there.. but he was the one whom spoke up when others wouldn't/didn't.. good on him for that.. but I would hope through DNA and witnesses, to the lead up of this terrible crime would be best way to go.. from here on in.. more beneficial.

Who takes the DNA? Yep the police they could just switch a samples with some fishermen. I would want samples taken by UK police and analysed by a UK forensic lab.

The main suspect was very well known on the island and,

1. next to the bodies in the middle of the crime scene chatting to the police.

2. he's been identified as the mystery man on the CCTV footage.

3. threatened the Scottish guy whilst in the company of a plain clothes policeman.

4. Refused to give a DNA sample.

And it's taken 7 days to bring him in!!

I have not seen the cctv footage. Does this: 2. he's been identified as the mystery man on the CCTV footage. refer to the guy who was said to be running around in the victim's underwear?

I posted in regard to the forum in regard to what was written on the German forum re Seam being seen covered in blood....

to find the full context, You would need to find the admin who deleted it thinking that accusations of Sean being seen blood covered was defamatory and that the forum was competition to TV..anyway

Thai police is well know for setting people up. We're not going to argue about that one. However many people here are simply jumping to their conclusions. Everyone seems to be forgetting the one we all are supposed to believe in, innocent until proven guilty. Let's wait a little bit longer for DNA results.

How difficult would it be to interfere with the DNA?

Im sure its not beyond the capabilities of even a poorly educated island policeman.

Its too far gone now, too many waters muddied, ive no doubt someone will swing, but doubt very much it will be those responsible.

Not unless someone with some clout from BKK arrives and starts kicking <deleted>, and soon.
