How to propose to your Thai girlfriend.

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Almost 10 years ago this week, I proposed to my lovely wife.

I'd read the books and spoken to friends; and after several trips to Thailand to visit my potential bride and family, it was time to pop the question.

I'll do the right thing on bended knee in front of Mum and Dad.

Well as it turned out, we both came down with classic 3 day diarrhea at the most inappropriate time. And in hindsight, this was the first and last time this happened.

So my "proposal" was literrally screamed from the squat toilet.."Hey Tuk, do you want to marry me?"

Her reply "Hurry up, I need to go"

Fast forward. We are now the happiest family on the planet.

So, how did you "pop the question" to your lovely wife?

In the rock shop in Bournemouth, rocks in question were diamonds of course, she twigged remarkably quickly :)

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

OP, how romantic of you...........hope the proposal was accompanied by the appropriate noises.

As I about me. I didn't propose, she said to me one day, tomorrow we are going to BKK to get married, get ready..........

No questions asked......just followed orders and we are happy ever after.

And yes, she wears the trousers round here..........

I've never been married and have absolutely no intentions to change that. In my opinion, marriage is an outdated thing. I'll stay together with my girlfriend as long as we're both happy, and if one day one of us is not and we just can't solve it, it's time to move on. But that's just my personal view.

Agree, it's a hell of a lot easier and less costly to move on when one is not married.

Marriage is for losers, over 50 percent divorce anyway. Marriage is only if you need a green card or want stay in Thailand.... If you love you don't need a piece of paper. You all have been brainwashed by church and religion.

Are your parents married?

Grandparents?

Are they losers?

Nothing wrong with being married. I loved my single days, had great fun. But now love coming home to my wife and the daughter.

Divorce rates are high because people give up to easily.

Yes Costas. Appropriate noises were in stereo.wub.png

I told mine she could have a new set of golf clubs or get married. We were at the Amphur office within the hour!

Married. Not religious. Really not a loser. Wife is English, I'm English. We live in Nonthaburi.

Does that fit your stereotype?

If you don't like marriage why are you on a "How to propose to your Thai girlfriend?" thread? Before you ask, I'm a bit soppy as it goes and wanted to check out other people's. I didn't marry a Thai girl so my story is not relevant.

50% Damn fine odds!

Anyway Digitalnomade why are you so impassioned about marriage? Rejected? Life lacking substance? Plenty of easy and attractive ladies but come to the realisation that it is all a bit "samey"?

One night we were sitting watching her favorite TV Show.

After 3 years together, we had tested the waters and knew we could tolerate each other for extended periods of time

We were both pushing on in years and it seemed unlikely either of us would find anything better at this stage of our lives.

I waved my glass in the air and she trotted off to the fridge to fetch me my seventh beer for the night

Knowing she was a keeper I asked her then and there if she would marry me.

She is a very lucky woman.

The best bit of being married is she sews my jocks back together, and the free glass re fills.

Guys, I'm one lucky guava.

I have to agree with you on marriage. I don't believe I should have to seek someone's, some government's, or some religion's permission for me to be with the woman I love.

Do you think the fact your parents or grandparents were married or not makes any real difference?

1993. We'd already been together for three years ... our daughter was two years old and our son was on the way.

I never formally proposed - it was just sort of decided. We married about a month after the 'decision'.

A few weeks ago, our daughter's boyfriend (now fiancé) proposed to her at an evening picnic on a coastal lookout, champagne, strawberries, one knee, blah blah blah.

Well, thank you very much future son-in-law - now my wife takes every opportunity to 'remind' me how it DIDN'T happen in 1993.

Bloody hell....if you ever decide you suddenly fancy men then I'll give it a go for that! wink.png

--EDIT--

In fact my wife is up for it too......

Sorry but your question doesn't make a lot of sense?

How many grandparents do you know got divorced?

Why?

I proposed to have a Buddhist wedding to my mother in law. My lassie wanted to marry me but she suggested to discuss first with her mum and granny.

I went for the traditional marriage which is just for show but I would not marry again in my life.

Pathetic comment.

Marrying a thai is like playing russian roulette! I would only do it if she was richer than me, then I wouldn't get screwed in the case of a divorce.

Marriage is like a castle in time of war.

Everyone outside is fighting to get in

while everyone inside is fighting to get out alive.

I am more of the latter
