Rescue workers bring Jirasak Sharkhu's body out of his home.

PHUKET: -- A sunbed-and-umbrella operator killed himself yesterday (September 22), probablybecause of depression after being ejected from the beach, police said.

Wichit police were called after Jirasak Sharkhu, 45, was found hanging by a nylon rope in his home in Mubaan Villa Suan Luang in Wichit. He had been dead for about two hours.

Police found no signs of foul play, assault or robbery.

After questioning neighbours they learned that Jirasak had previously been a sunbed-and-umbrella operator but, since being expelled from the beach three months ago in the Army-backed beach clean-up, he had been out of work.

His girlfriend had left him two months ago, and he had since spoken to no one.

At 6:10 pm the same day, Kathu police were called after another man was found hanged from the stairs in a two-storey house on Wichitsongkram Rd.

They learned that the dead man, 30-year-old Walan Khanyein, had previously crashed his motorcycle. He was left with a crippled left leg and his passenger – his best friend – was killed in the crash.

Walan had been depressed since then, neighbours said, because of being partially handicapped and because he blamed himself for the death of his friend.

try being a expat thats lost all his money and having to live on the streets, there is employment for thais, they just dont want to work, as for the motorbike rider, he is obviously blaming himself because he was riding like a reckless fool, cant understand why it would make news, this is all normal here

Well, who to blame? The police, the army, the tourists or who? There is plenty of work in this country and I cannot see the reason, why an (illegal - as removed) beach operator, who must be speaking basic English, cannot find another job.
We've been short on staff for YEARS 8-)

they could still run a business hiring beach chairs and umbrella's ...would be easy

have a motorcycle with sidecar and make the business mobile with the beach chairs and umbrella's being carried on the motorbike ...have a sigh that says beach chairs etc for hire...we come to you....

now there is a thought

I cannot feel one ounce of compassion for this nitwit. He had an extremely lucrative franchise for many years. He lost it. He may have lacked prudence, and he may have blown his fortune. People all over the world have to deal with changes of fortune. Real men just deal with it, and demonstrate creativity and get on with their lives. They do not take their lives, because they run into a roadblock. That is what wimps and cowards do. They push through, they work hard, and they provide a living for their families.
