Hi,

I dont like repeating the same question over and over but im hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I currently live in Thailand with my girlfriend, work 1 month, off 1 month which allows me this luxury.

I wish to take my girlfriend home for 2 weeks to the UK so we can visit family.

My questions being:

I have a contract for my current rented accomodation in Thailand, but do not own or rent a property in the UK. Does this cause a problem?

Or does this help prove the "reason to return" that is so often the downfall.

In our application I can provide evidence of current employment for myself and sufficient funds in the bank to cover our 2 week holiday. I will also have "the letter" stating that flights, accomodation and everything else will be my sole responsibility whilst we are on holiday.

Although my girlfriend doesnt work, as i earn enough.! I can however have a letter of such made up and backed up by a close friend if requested so she has her reason to return.

Is there any other avenues i need to cover?

help time and thoughts appreciatted.

What kind of visa do you currently have for Thailand and how long have you been living here?

Only make something up if you want to ensure that the application fails!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are legally living and working in Thailand?

You can provide evidence of the relationship, and that it is long term?

If you answer yes to both questions, then you are her reason to return. When you return, she'll come back with you, wont she?

If you've travelled in to Thailand on a succession of 30-day stamps, this, by itself, does not indicate that you have an intention to return to Thailand. However, if you have done so for a sufficiently long period, then your past actions will go someway to being indicative of your future intent.

I would support your girlfriend's application with as much evidence as possible to support your contention that you effectively live in Thailand, and this should also include some which shows the two of you to be in a relationship.

It is also advisable to have some evidence of the proposed accommodation in the UK. If you are to stay with family/friends, then get them to write an invitation letter; if staying in a hotel, then perhaps make a reservation.

Cheers,

Scouse.

I have travelled to Thailand on a number of 30 day visa's. I do as i say have a contract for rented accomodation until 6th of May 2007. I also have evidence of paying electricity and water bills etc. How can i prove that we are in a relationship? This may or may not be difficult I have started sourcing this information a number of months before we intend to leave. Could you please give me some idea of what would be suitable proof.

Your time and help is appreciatted

Darren,

Evidence of your relationship can include items such as joint bills etc. However, if you have none, then don't change them now, otherwise the visa officer might conclude that you've done so for self-serving purposes.

Alternatively, supply evidence of e-mails/phone calls which you exchange/make when apart, in addition to greetings cards, photos etc.: basically anything which shows that you are together. Such evidence should cover the entire period that you claim to have been in a relationship. If there are any deficiencies in the supporting documentation, then the reason should be accounted for in your covering letter.

Scouse,

Thanks very much your time and help is appreciatted.

Scouse or anyone with knowldege of this matter please respond.

I may struggle with proving our relationship as the phone calls i make to my girlfriend when we are apart are from an oil rig and i have no documentation to prove such.

We do have e-mails back and forth for the duration of our relationship (What would be considered a reasonable amount of documentation)? but if i was to print and hand these over some details i would not like read by anyone external of our relationship. If i was to black out with a pen parts which were not deemed appropriatte reading for a Visa Officer - would this look sceptical? Or do they understand that sometimes such items have to be kept private.

When we are together both our mobiles are pay as you go Tha phones so i have no bill to prove communication then either.

Sorry to go on and on but i want to be 100% up to speed with what i need. I reckon i have all other angles coverred thanks to everyones information.

thanks to all

I would write a brief note explaining why you are unable to provide evidence of phone calls.

You do not need to print out each and every e-mail. The ECOs quite understand that they may contain personal stuff. After all, you don't have to provide recordings of all your phone calls! Print off all the headers to show when and how many you've sent each other and maybe a half dozen actual mails to give an indication of content. Obviously choose ones that are not too intimate!

You say you can prove you rent accommodation in Thailand. Does she live there, and can she prove it? E.g. letters addressed to her at that address. Although, as Scouse says, don't do it now as the ECO will suss that you've done it for the application.

As to how much evidence, my opinion is that it is better to supply too much rather than too little.

GU22,

Thanks for the reply.

I will outline the content of the application in a letter and provide them with such information as to why we can not provide phone records and such like.

As i said i have asked these questions well in advance of when we are actually going i prefer to be prepared. We are not due to holiday until the end of january.

So with this in mind maybe it would be a good idea to post her some letters from my work in Egypt.

thanks again for everyones help.

Kind regards

Darren
