CIB busts pirated VCD producers

The Property Rights Infringement Suppression Unit of the Central Intelligence Bureau has arrested several suspects on charges of producing film VCDs which infringe on property rights, both for presently running films and new films.

More than 10,000 CDs were seized during the operation.

Pol Lt. Gen Montri Jamroon (มนตรี จำรูญ), the Commander of the Central Intelligence Bureau, conducted a press conference detailing the arrest of Mr. Chattapol Gamrangbai (ฉัตรพล กำลังใบ), a Khon Kaen resident, who has been charged with property rights infringement following a bust by the Property Rights Infringement Suppression Unit of the Central Intelligence Bureau, which received intelligence of a large-scale production of pirated VCDs.

Inspection of the production venue in the Phra Nakhon District resulted in the seizure of more than 10,000 movie VCDs, both for released and unreleased films.

The suspects confessed to receiving the goods from a source, and to selling the goods for 50 baht each.

Kantana Animation, Mang Pong, and many other film companies have participated in the investigation, and charges are currently being brought against the suspects.
