Bus Routes Pattaya and Jomtien

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about renting a house in Pattaya or Jomtien and would appreciate information of housing areas that are on or near to a bus route into town. I am partially sighted having lost the sight of my right eye in an incident many years ago in N. Ireland and prefer not to drive and my wife does not want to drive full stop. All sensible advice would be very welcomed. Thank you.

It's strange that when i pass the bus stops on say Thappraya Road i see a sign showing about 9 bus routes which i assumed indicated many buses travelled along that route. Over the past few years however i can't recall ever seeing a single bus. Are these bus routes a fiction?

OP - unless you choose to live way out in the burbs, baht busses run virtually everywhere in Jomtien and Pattaya. There are not really any bus services that run around town in the traditional sense as the baht busses replace them.

There are different types of song taows/baht busses that run within the city and up/down Suk Road and out into the darkside or north and south to Rayong or Laem Chabang.

Believe me, unless you live 30klm away from the city you'll have no problems getting around once you understand how the system works.

The Baht Bus route in Pattaya & Jomtien... cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Well there are many baht buses, but they start, end, and will go the route or deviate a route at the whim of the driver, the driver keep their planned route a secret (probably as they not have one), if they tell you they probably have to kill you.whistling.gif

Basically if you catch a Baht bus heading north on Jomtien Beach Road there is good chance he will be going to Pattaya, well at least to the traffic lights junction of Pattaya South Road.

If you catch a Baht bus going south on Pattaya Beach Road good chance they will be going as far as Walking Street and turning left into South Road until the Traffic lights at Second Road from then on the BB may turn left heading back up Second Road, go straight on up South Road, or turn right for Jomtien, your guess is as good as mine. crazy.gif.pagespeed.ce.dzDUUqYcHZ.gif

Catch a bus at the "Bus Stop" just south of traffic lights at Second Road/South Road where the BB are queueing up, drivers and pusher-on's will be shouting out "Chom Ti En", these bus do normally make it to Jomtien, these buses do not leave until the Bus is grossly overloaded, hence the pushers-on, how far down Jomtien Beach road they are going is a complete mystery to all but the driver (maybe even the driver) but one thing for sure ask the driver if is going as far as your destination and guaranteed he was not, but for a hundred bahts or so he can. facepalm.gif

Good tip when catching a bus at the "Bus Stop" try for the passenger seat, with a bit of luck the pusher-on my place a nice bit of totty on your lap, the other thing as you have been told the destination the driver will try to kill everybody on board by driving high speed at every pothole they know, having said that all driver do that regardless of route.wai2.gif

Believe me, unless you live 30klm away from the city you'll have no problems getting around once you understand how the system works.

If you live on or very near Sukumvit, or on or very near the main Naklua Road/Pattaya Beach Road/Pattaya 2nd Road/Thappraya Roadd/Jomtien Beach Road loop, and want to go to places on the same routes then you will indeed find it quite easy to get to where you are going, usually for 10B, or 20B at most. Where it gets less obvious is when you want to travel sideways off those main routes where Bahtbuses can be few and very far between, with a lot of queuing and waiting, if indeed there is any service at all or after 6pm.

I was very careful to pick a condo building that is right on the main Naklua/Jomtien Bahtbus run and have never regretted it.
