Broadcasting regular remains split on Channel 3's multicasts

BANGKOK: -- The broadcasting regulator today voted 3 against 2 to approve Channel 3’s simulcasts of its analogue programmes through the digital TV station of BEC Multimedia.

Also, BEC Multimedia, licence holder of digital TVs, must submit its programmes to be aired to the regulator for consideration. The company was required to reconfirm to the broadcasting committee that it must be held accountable and has the authority over the programmes to be aired in case there is a problem about any of the programmes.

Ms Supinya Klangnarong, one of the three committee members who endorsed the simulcasts by Channel 3, said that once there is a letter of confirmation from BEC Multimedia about the company’s authority and responsibility, a licence for simulcasts would be issued and BEC would not deemed as breaching Article 9 of the broadcasting law.

Broadcasting committee chairman Colonel Nathee Sukonrat who disagreed with the simulcasts by Channel 3, meanwhile, admitted that he was still concerned with the legal issue regarding BEC Multimedia and Bangkok Entertainment which operates Channel 3.

The colonel said he still maintained that the two are two separate entities although the two are controlled by the same group of people. He said he was in favour of issuing a provisional clause to put an end to the row over the legal issue.
