Can a Thai national travel to Cambodia with a photocopy of her Thai passport and i.d card ?

Recommended Posts

My Thai partner applied for a u.k visa in Bangkok over two weeks ago. Rather than wait around in thailand for a decision to be made i thought we could maybe go Cambodia for a week or so while the u.k embassy make a decision . The only problem is she now only has a photocopy of her passport which has the receipt attached to it in acknowledgement of her u.k visa application. Ive read that thai nationals don't need a visa for Cambodia but will they insist on the original passport to enter the country ?

Jamo 99, you cannot travel into another country without a passport. Doesn't matter how many photo copies you have

At Chong Chom on the Cambodian border - 1000baht for me (Oz) , 50baht for the missus (Thai), no passport asked for. Only to the casino and market though.

They initially asked if I needed the visa (to extend my stay in Thailand I suppose) when I said no, the money was mentioned and handed over. While passing the actual immigration officer the bloke just said "don't worry he has already paid" and in we went.

Later that evening when we realised there wasn't an ATM in the casino the missus walked back into Thailand, grabbed some cash and walked back into Cambodia before the border closed.

When we walked back into Thailand the next day nobody said a word or asked for any type of ID let alone a passport.
